“...I remember when this happened. Am I really that old?...”
Hey, I was 24 when it happened - you’re not so old!! Ha!
For the sake of those that don’t remember what happened -
Philadelphia’s first black Democrat Mayor “Wee Willie Wilson” Goode ordered the actual FIREBOMBING of a bunkered-up house full of subversive “Back To Africa” black radicals known as “MOVE”.
They had been harassing and threatening neighbors, had rats and other vermin overrunning their house, which they’d barricaded and equipped with loudspeakers; they used the loudspeakers to harangue the neighbors and anyone who passed by with threats and complete nonsense - at ALL hours of the day and night.
The city went after them to evict them, as I believe they were squatting on a condemned property. The cops came to evict them, the MOVE members started shooting, and they killed Officer Jim Ramp.
The police used an air-delivered explosive (by helicopter) to try and gain entry through the roof, but the roof caught fire, and it went up like a dry forest.
The resulting fire burned down a couple of city blocks of houses in a black neighborhood.
And the cost for rebuilding those homes went skyrocketing way beyond what they were originally worth (other than the fact that people lost everything they had for no other reason than they lived near these freaks).
That’s how I remember it, at any rate.
No, the Mayor was black Democrat Wilson Goode, not Frank Rizzo.
“yes no one, philly didnt own a chopper. it was the feds.”
So Reagan did it. I knew there had to be a reason to dig this up.
The movie will use Rizzo. It’s more believable.
Please enlighten me-what is factually wrong in that article?
Ha! You may be right...
I liked Frank. He was a Dem, but he wasn’t a communist POS.
Check out the spin on him here...

Your memory is better than mine :-)
Yes, Wilson Goode; I’m giving away my age when I mention Mayor Rizzo....

Well, I just think it’s only “fair” that make sure it’s known that it was a black liberal Democrat mayor that dropped a bomb on black radicals that were probably democrats as well.
If it was a white conservative Republican that dropped an airborne bomb on an American street, we’d STILL be listening to the leftards whine about it.
Fair is fair, you know...
It doesn’t matter if they were Black Panthers or hardened criminals.....they were surrounded and did not need to be burned out.
Just because this is a leftist group does not mean they deserved to be burned alive.
Surrounding the place and starving them out would have worked just fine.
I saw this happen. I was riding the Wycombe D bus a couple of blocks away. By the time I got home in Delaware County, the sky to the east looked as if Philly was in a battle and being bombed.
I actually saw something drop from a helicopter while I was on the D bus.
Very true - good insight.
We jus GOTS ta be’s fair...
ok i was a freshman in college when he was elected... 17
are you from philly. id like to review your comments later. i remember the news footage, which i think was unstaged as the news had the cameras and the guys that dropped the bombs or whatever were amateurs. the news footage at the time was pretty clear and repeatedly showed the helicopter starting sumtin.
I saw videotape taken by a 'local' during that siege, and MOVE was mentioned in the commentary while showing footage of a dark colored helicopter carrying a 55 gallon drum slung beneath it.
The person doing the commentary mentioned it might be an incendiary device like the one used on MOVE.
I did more digging, and found out about the Philly incident.
Keep in mind the tape I saw was a copy of a copy of a copy, and the commenter was likely a white separatist or white supremacist by the rhetoric, so I found it odd that they were sympathetic toward a primarily black inner city group.
While I have never been aligned with any white separatist or supremacist group, I was interested in what was going on at Ruby Ridge and had the opportunity to see the tape.
Looking back at the MOVE incident, most of what is currently available on the incident appears to have the official 'sanitized for your protection' seal of approval. Video is limited, news accounts rely on official information, etc.
Similar reporting on Waco could be found on CNN, and would have you think armed brigands bushwhacked the ATF, when in fact, the ATF there came in spoiling for a fight and attacked the facilities there at Mt. Carmel. The Ruby Ridge incident was similarly sanitized in the mass media, at least until Randy Weaver went to court and won.
