Sen. Ted Cruz says Gov. Rick Perry has done a good job leading the state but isn’t responsible for the booming economy that has created more than 1 million jobs in the decade he’s been governor.
“There isn’t a politician in this country who’s responsible for the economic growth we have,” Cruz said Friday. “The economic growth has come from the private sector, it’s come from entrepreneurs. Nothing drives me crazier than politicians who run around talking about the jobs they’ve created.”
He added: “Politicians are very good at killing jobs, but they don’t create jobs.”
Cruz and Perry, both Republicans, could be rivals should both decide to run for president in 2016.
Perry has traveled the country in recent months, saying his low-tax, low-regulation approach as governor since 2000 has been the driving force behind Texas’ tops-in-the-nation job growth. The state’s record of job creation under Perry is seen as his strongest selling point should he make another run for the White House.
Cruz said Perry and the Legislature deserve credit for enacting “laws that create an environment that allow small businesses to prosper and flourish, for not screwing up.
“But we should all be very clear. The jobs are not created by politicians. They are created by the private sector,” Cruz said.
The freshman senator made the remarks at a news conference while in Austin to address graduating ROTC students....

Politicians that get government out of the way are the good pens but he is right that government does not create jobs

It’s oil. The price of oil went up and oil states boomed.
The heartless people involved in the Texas revolution ought to be blamed.
If they didn’t want to share they obviously didn’t have a heart.
Is Rick Perry brave for sometimes acting with the will of the voters of Texas? Is he risking his life cutting taxes?
There are a lot of businesses here that have nothing to do with oil or gas. Look at the jobs within 25 miles of my home and see how many of them are related to petrochemicals:

Notice how the statement is twisted in to a lie and a distortion.
Cruz is correct.
And Perry did a very good job helping to create a good environment for job growth.
And not only that, Perry went out and brought more industry to Texas.
I would prefer Ted direct his attention more towards to democrats.
Well, not really. The consumer, 66% of economic drive, has been slashed by rising gas costs, in TX at least.
So the oil boom is helping some..creating more money to spread around, but hurting households right now.
Ted did not attack Perry, as far as I can tell.
The oil industry lifts all boats in the area. Wealth flows to the oil industry employees and investors and then they have money to spend on everything else which creates all kinds of jobs.

I like Perry. He’s done a good job for Texas. But he’s not the person I would want the republicans to nominate to run for president.
I think it’s more complex than that (governments don’t create jobs). Governments can create an environment that encourages job development. For example, the rule of law enables businesses to create more jobs than they might otherwise. Government, of course, can also be a negative influence on jobs.
For example, there are USAF aircraft that don’t directly attack the enemy but these aircraft are called force multipliers because they substantially increase the effectiveness of actual war fighters. I’m talking about aircraft like tankers and command and control platforms.
In the same way, government can be very beneficial for business. Too much government is bad, but so is too little government, anarchy. That’s why a lot of countries are economic wrecks. It’s difficult to build businesses in areas where there’s no rule of law. Try to build a business in these countries, and someone ends up destroying or taking it. Some would argue that that someone in America IS government, and the end result is the same—a ruined economy, but I digress.
Good government indirectly creates real jobs, and getting government out of the way isn’t always a good thing. A governor who finds the right balance of government can indeed help businesses create more jobs, so I give Governor Rick Perry credit for that. He does seem to be trying to create the right government to help act as a business “force multiplier.”

Given how much politics is a dirty business, his statement was quite mild, but to have any chance of getting enough financing for a run, he has climb over the other potential candidates which includes at least a degree of belittling them. It’s unfortunate, but that’s the way it is.
It was the implementation of the fracturing process. And boom, vast amounts oil are now coming to market from shale and oil bearing areas in the US. Keeping the price up is going to be the problem, one the Saudi’s faced before the boom.
