Krugman: GOP has reached point of no return on climate
Houston Chronicle ^ | May 16, 2014 | By Paul Krugman

Posted on 05/17/2014 4:03:09 PM PDT by Oldeconomybuyer

... Think of it this way: Once upon a time it was possible to take climate change seriously while remaining a Republican in good standing. Today, listening to climate scientists gets you excommunicated - hence Rubio's statement, which was effectively a partisan pledge of allegiance.

And truly crazy positions are becoming the norm. A decade ago, only the GOP's extremist fringe asserted that global warming was a hoax concocted by a vast global conspiracy of scientists (although even then that fringe included some powerful politicians). Today, such conspiracy theorizing is mainstream within the party, and rapidly becoming mandatory; witch hunts against scientists reporting evidence of warming have become standard procedure, and skepticism about climate science is turning into hostility toward science in general.

It's hard to see what could reverse this growing hostility to inconvenient science. As I said, the process of intellectual devolution seems to have reached a point of no return. And that scares me more than the news about that ice sheet.

The argument from fear of the warmists in the “climate change” argument is that climate is going to hell and it’s our fault. They also assume change as vindication of their position when change is always the norm with climate.

The hoax is a political one, not a scientific one, you insufferable hack.

Exactly!

OK!! Everybody pay attention!

Lesson for today:

1. The sun is 1,300,000 times as big as the earth.

2. The sun is a ball of fire that controls the climates of all its planets.

3. The earth is one of the sun’s planets.

4. The earth is a speck in comparison to the size of the sun.

5. Inhabitants of the earth are less than specks.

Study Question: How do less-than-specks in congress plan to control the sun?

What scares me FAR, FAR WORSE, Mr. Krugman, is the Democrat “process of intellectual devolution” toward communism and tyranny that “seems to have reached a point of no return.”

Krugman is doing better. He got this paragraph almost correct. I’ve cleaned it up for him with a few inserts.

It’s hard to see what could reverse this growing hostility to (our) inconvenient (BS) science. As I said, the(our) process of intellectual devolution seems to have reached a point of no return. And that scares me more than the news about that ice sheet (and the 17 years with no measurable Global Warming).

Krugman should be worried that the Dims are past the point of no return. The historical evidence just isn’t there for global warming or climate change, it’s regular old weather.

I going to have to take your word for it. I’m interested in physics but can’t really keep up with it. At least they don’t want to tax us trillions of dollars for our quark footprint.

Hey! Paul! If climate "science" is science, why doesn't it use the scientific method?

Hmmm?

They may call us “climate-change deniers” (of course, warming is the only climate change they’re interested in) ... but based on their response to the scientific data, we should call them “science-deniers”.

Democrats and Commies (but I repeat myself) are always accusing others of doing the wrongheaded and criminal things that they themselves are doing.

It’s because they are so used to being thoroughly corrupt, they have a hard time understanding that other people are not like them.

So that’s why odious people like Reid and Pelosi wrongly claim that the Tea Party is just astroturf. Because the standard modus operandi of Demo-Commies is to use rent-a-mobs, they naturally assume that the good guys do the same thing. Bzzzzzt - wrong answer.

Same thing with climate “science”.

Krugman is just doing what Commies do.

Today, such conspiracy theorizing is mainstream within the party...

If it walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, it's probably a duck. The way the GW/AGW/Climate-Change faithful act ... well, it sure walks and quacks like a scam. Then there's the whole University of East Anglia email scandal that show - gasp(!) - they are actually colluding and cherry picking data to produce the desired findings. Hmmm. Not so much of a theory anymore, looking more and more like proven fact.

Krugman has hit the point of no return on credibility a long time ago. After so much evidence in the last 15 years, one must truly be uninformed or gullible to believe in man-made global warming and the prescribed remedies!

HE should be given a grant to study the Earth’s Climate from outer Space
The Russians can resupply his capsule! We will expect a report in 5 year intervals.

How long’s this dbag been around? Surely long enough to remember the man-made-climate alarmists prediction of the next Ice Age.

Well said.

The human mind works in "auto-complete" mode, so unless you're on guard against it, your world-view is going to be an auto-complete version of your own preconceptions.

Krugman—What a propagandist for the Dem party! The R party has members with varied opinions on climate issues. Conservatives (not equivalent to the R party) are adherents to honest scientific inquiry. It is only the Dem party’s members who have a monolithic opinion about the climate issue and it is grounded in greed, not science.

I'm on it just now because I've been reading a book about it,

Not Even Wrong: The Failure of String Theory and the Search for Unity in Physical Law.

The author is a mathematical physicist at Columbia.

Good read. I skip the hardest parts :^)

What struck me was the parallel to the instituional aspects of global warming.

Good opinion.

Earth is 4.5 billions years old, give or take. Just what is Earth’s average mean temp? Does anybody really know? Yea, we may influence the climate to a degree or so, but in the overall scheme of things, Mother Earth is gonna do what Mother Earth is gonna do, and there ain’t a damn thing we can do about it except improvise, adapt, and overcome.

But this chicken little crap scaremongering going on is wearing thin. That and the wholly exorbitant costs/destruction of our economy the libs are trying trying to ram down our throats for their own enrichment really chaffs my butt.
