(Reuters) - Facing a challenge from a Tea Party candidate in this year's race to fill his Senate seat, Mitch McConnell has sought to appeal to conservative Republicans by stressing his pro-gun, anti-immigration and anti-abortion stance. He has also attacked Washington earmarks for lawmakers' pet projects.
It appears to have worked. Going into Tuesday's Republican primary in Kentucky, the Senate minority leader is ahead of his opponent, Louisville-based businessman Matt Bevin, by a wide margin, according to opinion polls.
But once victory is secured, McConnell will have to tack back toward the political center ahead of a tight November contest against Democratic candidate Alison Lundergan Grimes.

Pravda was not as fake as these liars. At least you knew the press was controlled, these asshats claim neutrality.
Good! I’m not devoted to any particular candidate, and in my mind, the whole thing is to get candidates to commit to certain positions, whether they are new entries or oldies who want to revive their stock.
The important thing is the ideas and the principles, and not the personalities. If McConnell will really commit to these principles, that’s wonderful - and maybe he actually did rethink some of his positions. We shouldn’t attribute malice to all of them, just establishmentarianism or Beltwayism or whatever. But all of their feet have to be held to the fire.

Reuters, eh? How much should I bet that this man has never voiced any opposition to immigration in his life, but that he has opposed citizenship for illegal aliens?
That's great theory. It doesn't work in practice, or Senator Cornyn wouldn't have been the critical vote supporting Reid's cloture vote on the removal of the debt limit.
'Holding their feet to the fire' is a fool's mission. And anyone voting for a liberal republican hoping to 'hold their feet to the fire' is a liberal. Vote for a liberal and you are a liberal.

You may win your seat, but there are many in your state that are screaming a message that you better listen to.

The GOPe money in Kentucky and nationally just couldn't let the old turd go so they joined forces to campaign with lies and slandering a good alternative, Matt Bevin. Even Sen Rand Paul stood by his ole buddy McConnell. For some time the polls indicate Bevin would beat Grimes. The same polls have McConnell losing to Grimes in November. F' McConnell and all the GOPe! McConnell represents everything that is wrong with the Republican Party. They would rather lose the seat than have a Tea Party type conservative win.

Hopefully no matter what happens, Mitch is not leading anything other than Karl Rove’s fan club in January.
Once he pivots, all his promises made to defeat the Conservative will be history. We cannot scare them straight. The corruption is too deep.
Mitch McConnell declared war on the TEA Party and used his power as Minority leader and within the GOP to defund candidates and attack groups that supported TEA party candidates.

Kentucky is 2 or 3% Hispanic. Grimes could have hit Mitch or Rand on immigration but she just sticks to the party line. Left Wing Mime.
Exactly. Mitch is directing more money against Republicans than for them. So why should any conservative vote for him?
I want that explained to me. It’s like telling a battere wife that she ought to go back to the abuser because nobody else wants her. Screw him.
