You are correct!

Some school districts have removed recess from elementary schools - in one school district, they were talking about removing recess, so that they could lower their costs because they wouldn’t have to buy or maintain playground equipment and their insurance costs would go down!

There was even a push to remove PE as a required class for Jr. High and High School! The “educators” want more time to brainwash the kids in leftist dogma!

Obesity is being caused by the fact that most kids do not go outside and play and run around and ride bikes and do ANY physical activities! Most homes that have a swimming pool, a trampoline, a play fort and/or swing sets which are actually used, have kids in them that are in better shape than your average youth!

And kids that don’t get to run their excess energy off on the playground are troublesome in class, so they have to be drugged into submission.

Great job you’re doing, liberals.

Bingo! Kids used to be so active playing outside they needed a bath before dinner/supper. Now they only need to wash their video games-playing thumbs.

It is a self-fulfilling prophecy! Both the Communists and Democrats (though I repeat myself) KNOW this is a self-fulfilling prophecy!

Some of the most unhealthy looking people can be found in health food type markets.

I noticed the same thing when I have gone to Whole Foods. I am not sure if it is cause or effect.

“One of the rarest things on Earth in 1955 was a fat kid. Walking to and from school and spending an hour and a half on playgrounds a day had mostly to do with it...”

***

Another factor is that in 1955 children usually had two parents who actually shopped for groceries and prepared the meals. Today, the parents are absent or don’t care. So they leave the kids to their own devices or they abdicate the responsibility for the health and well being of their children to the nanny state.

She said that the best way to deal with the struggling schools would be to study what they are doing wrong.

Clueless.

Yep. Back when gym class and recess time could involve actual exercise and competition, and there was some incentive to “be good” or excel at the sports activities.

It sounds like you DID put together a fun lunch for the kids. Too bad they wouldn’t eat it. We had the 3 year old granddaughter with us last week, and one day I gave her a corn dog, the full size kind on the stick (with fruit and grape tomatoes) for lunch, and she ate it all and then asked for and finished off a second corn dog. Then she proceeded to run and play for hours, probably burned off several thousand calories.

And just how can they head out? K-8 are CLOSED campuses. Most HS are too. It has been that way for at least 2 decades. They are lucky to get a recess if K-6. 7-8 normally is a study hall period instead of recess.

My grandson’s lunch period is 20 min, at 10 AM, he ate at 7 AM, is hungry when he gets home, needs a snack to tied him over until he gets supper at 6-7 pm. BTW he does sack lunches, won’t eat school food, unless it was chicken nuggets.

My dad was a small town Baptist preacher with 4 kids. We qualified for free and reduced lunches but he had the strange idea that it was his job to feed his kids. I bet I ate less than 10 school lunches k-6, brought my lunch everyday; all my friends were jealous.

Now I teach high school social studies; in my 27 years there has never been a better example that kids can relate to about the essence of liberalism than 0’s school lunch rules. I posted this the other day on a similar thread:

As a history teacher, nothing has done more to allow me to explain liberalism to my high school students. They are really shocked to learn that the government thinks they are too stupid to be allowed to make their own choices. Very easy to show the same reasoning is behind high taxes; you are too stupid to be allowed to spend your own money, the government needs to spend it for you.

Today, even when they DO have gym class or “recess”, they aren’t allowed to play certain games because of “injuries” from dodgeball, because of self esteem problems if a kid is picked last or close to last in choosing up sides...

Leave the kids alone and they themselves will sort out things on their own just as we did 50-60 years ago.....
