The Vaticans Secretary of State made a dramatic revelation ahead of Pope Franciss visit to Israel next Sunday and Monday, declaring that the pope will talk about the Palestinian peoples right to have a homeland, sovereign and independent.
Cardinal Pietro Parolin holds a role in the Vatican City State, located in the Italian capital of Rome, equivalent to that of a prime minister.
When asked what the pope particularly intends to talk about during the visit, Parolin revealed he would talk about on the one hand, Israels right to exist in peace and security within internationally recognized boundaries. On the other side, the pope would talk about the Palestinian peoples right to have a homeland, sovereign and independent, the right to move around freely, the right to live in dignity, according to Parolin.
In fact, the Vatican recognized the State of Palestine in 2012 amid the United Nations (UN) vote to confer Palestine non-member observer state status, a status until then only held by the Vatican.

I think God should be making that decision,,,NOT the Pope:
Quote from ‘Got Questions’:
“What is the land that God promised to Israel?”
In regards to the land that God has promised Israel, Genesis 15:18 declares to Abraham, To your descendants I give this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the Euphrates. God later confirms this promise to Abrahams son Isaac and Isaacs son Jacob (whose name was later changed to Israel). When the Israelites were about to invade the Promised Land, God reiterated the land promise, as recorded in Joshua 1:4, Your territory will extend from the desert to Lebanon, and from the great river, the Euphratesall the Hittite countryto the Great Sea on the west.
According to Genesis 15:18 and Joshua 1:4, the land God gave to Israel included everything from the Nile River in Egypt to Lebanon (south to north) and everything from the Mediterranean Sea to the Euphrates River (west to east).
So, what land has God stated belongs to Israel? All of the land modern Israel currently possesses, plus all of the land of the Palestinians (the West Bank and Gaza), plus some of Egypt and Syria, plus all of Jordan, plus some of Saudi Arabia and Iraq. Israel currently possesses only a fraction of the land God has promised.” unquote.
So those planning to tell God otherwise....WELL ‘Good Luck With That’, I don’t want to be in your shoes.
Palestine was the moniker that was given to the are by the Romans and has been a generally accepted term for 2000 years, predating the present Israeli/Palestinian conflict. Israel refers to the State of Israel, not a geographical territory.
So you aren’t for the rights of the Israelis then. Not a very “balanced” viewpoint.
None of the Arabs today want any Jewish state. What to do about it?
Did you miss the bit about Jews in Jerusalem being slaughtered during the Crusades too? So there was a Jewish presence there back in the eleventh century.
The Romans renamed Judaea “Palaestina” after the long-gone Philistines. That does not make the land any less Judaea or (as the Romans spelled it) Israhel.
That’s not what the Arabs want. That is why they call it “jihad” in the first place.
(And I hope you’re not accidentally suggesting that all Jews will sell out and leave all of Israel to the Arabs? Wouldn’t stop the jihadi anyhow; they’ll move on to the Great Satan.)
Prior to its independence there were no Israelis, just Jewish residents in Palestine. As for the partition, this should have been subject to negotiations between the Jewish and Arab population. In the end it was probably the only solution possible. But can you tell me, without the agreement of the Arab majority, by what right did a minority and immigrant Jewish population have to demand a partition?
Btw, this should not be seen as a rejection of the right of Israel today. After 66 years Israel is a fact and will not be going away any more than the Arab population. This is a fact that the Palestinians will have to accept.
Did you miss the bit about Jews in Jerusalem being slaughtered during the Crusades too? So there was a Jewish presence there back in the eleventh century.
A minority population that existed in many cities throughout the Mediterranean and Middle East.
If the Arabs wanted a freer, wealthier & healthier life, they demand Israel take over all the surrounding countries...
Absolutely no surprise here (except for American Fundamentalist Protestants who think they have the “real chrstianity”). This is the one position both extreme right and left wing Catholics have in common.
Jews are descendants of Israel (Jacob), so yes, there were Israelis there.
For a supposed “minority population” in the eleventh century, the slaughter of Jerusalem’s Jews by the Crusaders is certainly extremely well-known. Those that survived were also large enough in number for the Crusaders to put them to work cleansing the Temple Mount of the blood and gore, and a sizable number being taken captive to Italy were also written about.
Or implement a fully Halakhic Torah state. That's my personal preference.
If Palestinians want a State of their own, people of good will can help them. We can buy them Arab land. It would be cheaper than decades of a stupid ‘peace process’. Arabs can kick in some cash, we can, the Catholic Church can and they can have their own State.. They can't have Israel any more than they can ‘have’ Norway. Other people's countries are NOT on the table.
We need to look at this with new eyes...
To the contrary. Halakhah covers just which non-Jews may live in 'Eretz Yisra'el and under what conditions.
A secular Jewish state is a contradiction in terms. And there are no secular "rights" or "duties."
Of course, they're against it for themselves.
They are. The Arabs that are Israeli citizens are treated exactly the same as Jewish citizens. But the people who LEFT the land under the delusion that they would be able to sweep back in and steal everything left after the Jews had been massacred... Sorry ol chum but their decendents are SOL.
And it should be noted that the surrounding A-rab nations have also kicked out them out. Mostly because they tried to take over the governments of the countries that gave them shelter.
Which is exactly the same thing they are trying to do to Israel.
So why I wonder is the Pope not ragging on the other A-rab nations.
Whoever said they were permanent? Why do you think this is so?
Once the Canaanites were the "permanent" non-Jewish residents. G-d commanded their extermination.
A truly Jewish Israel would implement Halakhah and refuse to allow idolators to settle in the Holy Land.
It gets a bit irksome reading posts by a conservative Catholic who never mentions what G-d may want in this area. You sound like a thorough enlightenment secularist on this topic.
PS: Are you my old friend the "rocking horse" guy?
Yes, there was.
Many Jews moved out but many Jews remained. The idea that the land of Israel was juden frei is simply not accurate.
"Palestine" is a name derived from the Philistines and given to the land by the Romans. It was never known as "Palestine" until that time. Anti-Israel Catholics should at least have the basic decency to apply "Canaan" as a "neutral" name, but they seem addicted to the Roman name for some reason.
Israel was the name of the Land before the present State ever existed. It has Divinely-defined Halakhic boundaries.
But you insist on ignoring G-d and making purely secular arguments here, so there's no need in continuing to respond to you.
Yes, but “Palestinians” don’t want “a state of their own” and never have. They want Israel.
Quite so. Arabs (even those that self-identify as “Palestinians”) who live in the Jewish state of Israel have way more freedom than in Fatahstan/Hamastan.
