FOR years we have been hearing that women are just like men except for a few minor anatomical differences and therefore all (lucrative) occupations that were once male should be opened to women. No sooner is this transformation enacted by government or corporations in some specific arena than it is openly admitted that women are very different from men and the workplace must be transformed to accommodate these differences.

An announcement by a Naval commander typifies this phenomenon. The Navy once decided it must have women sailors because women are just like men. Now the Navy says it can’t retain women sailors because women are not just like men. From the AP:

Article doesn’t mention, but, there have been cases of females sailors getting pregnant while deployed at sea.

Random pregnancy tests are standard on ships. Navy policy is to remove any female found pregnant as soon as possible - usually at the next port-of-call. But, sometimes the have to be helicoptered off [or flown out in the case of a carrier].

It would be difficult in the Silent Service [especially "Boomers"] that are supposed to remain submerged during their entire tours ...

When my kid was in, they would see a number of women get pregnant prior to WESPAC - instant shore duty.

Don’t you love how it’s all about ‘career opportunities’ for the girls and bennies, but not one consideration about the Constitutional mandate of Defending the Nation. Sickening.

At the military academy where I have worked since ‘88 a decision was made to cut precious storage space in half to install a special room where a woman can express her milk. This was the only purpose for this 10x12 room instead of making it a multifunctional room ideally set up for a woman to express milk, of course. It was 1 woman in the 24 years I've worked there who is now no longer lactating. I'm all for making everything ADA compliant for new construction. My only question is why hasn't this now unused room been established for other purposes? It's holy territory and no one dares ask the question.

So, when they rig for silent running will the gals turn off their "personal massagers," or will it come down to confiscating the batteries?

The enemy is listening, you know...
