Meet Ryland, a 6-year-old transgender kid from San Diego, and the people who accepted him — his parents.
Jeff and Hillary Whittington uploaded their family's YouTube video, titled "Ryland's Story," Tuesday, and it is already approaching 400,000 views thanks to boosts by media outlets worldwide. It tells the emotional story of how the Whittingtons embraced their child's transition and was first shown on May 22 before the family received the Inspiration Award at San Diego's annual Harvey Milk Diversity Breakfast.
That day, the San Diego LGBT Weekly carried this quote from Jeff Whittington about the video: “One of the most inspiring things that Harvey Milk had done as far as our family is concerned was to encourage people to come out, to let their voices be heard; break down the walls, break down the barriers and start allowing people to see them for their authentic selves and be true to themselves, and this is our coming out … this is us making our voices heard …”
At the six-minute mark, you’ll see and hear Ryland at the podium.
He says this: "My name is Ryland Michael Whittington. I’m a transgender kid....
"I am six. I’m a cool kid....
"I’m the happiest I’ve been in my whole life. Thank you to my parents….
"Thank you to Harvey Milk for helping the world be a better place.”
Wonder what a mess his life will be by the time he is 20?
Horrible to do this to a child whose hormones haven’t kicked in. When “he” is a teen and feels that he’s really and truly a girl, will they give him another operation?

This is just so sad. I feel heartsick for this poor little girl that has idiots for parents and no intelligent adult to guide her through life.

She is a girl, and it will be awfully hard for her to change her mind, because it would, in effect, mean she was accusing her parents of being crazy and abusive.
i wonder if they have done a chromosomal analysis to see if this young girl has a “Y” chromosome lurking about her “X” chromosomes?
