It's good to know that the shooting of a 10-year-old girl on a Milwaukee playground still has the ability to shock and motivate people to action.
Sierra Guyton was gravely wounded near N. 28th and W. Clarke streets May 21 in a shooting that alarmed residents across the city. The first news reports alone were enough to make anyone with any sense of what makes a civilization function question how this could happen.
A little girl playing outside her home with her sister gets trapped in a rain of gunfire more suitable for a Hollywood action movie than a residential area, and it signifies a tipping point for those who refuse to accept this as normal activity.
The shooting resonated because people saw it for what it was: another inexcusable act of gun violence and another reminder that society tolerates a flood of illegal guns in the hands of idiots least likely to be responsible enough to carry them.
Two men have been arrested; the alleged gunman was charged with three felony counts. More than 20 shots were reportedly fired during the exchange as Sierra and her 12-year-old sister found themselves in the middle of an armed battle.

Yeah go to any rural white communities and show me how many mass shootings they have compared to black communities in general (yes I know Newtown is relatively small; talking about on avg)
“Yes, it is a damn shame that in some parts of this great city, little girls can’t go outside to play without the danger of being shot.”
Is it?
Blacks love the thug life, and most of them cant be bothered with things like responsibility, maturity, and even simple things like actually telling the police relevant info that they may posses that can get these crooks off the streets.
And I’d bet this writer would oppose anything that would actually make a difference. All in the name of protecting the “brothas”.
I read the first two pages of comments. With the exception of one, only one, every comment placed the blame where it belonged, including accurately calling the columnist a race hustler.
A lot really laid into him.
—usually the case with the Chicago Tribune and the Milwaukee J-S—the the Chicago Sun-Times has apparently stopped taking comments —same there when they did-—
What the Journal is not saying is how the perp had an arrest sheet a mile long, and he was let out on his latest crime because the DA wants to rehabilitate the thugs rather than putting his sorry a$$ in jail.
On the other hand, liberals do all they can to avoid looking at the root causes of violence in black communities. Heaven forbid we have a candid discussion of the dysfunctional families and culture that breed this violence.
It is much easier to blame guns than to hold the black community responsible for its own behavior.
I have read Eugene Kane's pieces for years. Honesty and a quest for truth are not his stong suits.
Journal Sentinel columnist comments on shooting of 10 year old girl.
FReep Mail me if you want on, or off, this Wisconsin interest ping list.
Liberals won’t allow us to have discussions about the social pathologies of the ghetto. So, we dance around the core issues involved, when we discuss gun control and related issues.
I’ve heard that, while America has a higher murder rate than many other countries, if you pulled out the black on black murders from the statistics, that America’s rate of murder would actually be lower than a number of European countries.
Pass more gun laws that criminals and crazies will pay no attention to.
Yeah, that’s the ticket...
Kane has lived in Florida a year now, but still write for the Journal. I guess there isn’t another race-baiter in MKE that can write.
