Report: Bowe Bergdahl Wrote a Note Saying He Wanted to Renounce His American Citizenship

Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl wrote a note expressing a desire to renounce his American citizenship, according to Fox News.

Fox News’ Jennifer Griffin reported Tuesday that members of Bergdahl’s unit said he left behind a note saying he felt disillusioned with the Army and wanted to renounce his citizenship before he was captured in 2009.

Griffin reported that the note has not been made public, nor been provided to Fox, but is part of the body of evidence being examined in the classified investigation.

There have been a number of questions surrounding the deal to release Bergdahl in exchange for five Guantanamo Bay detainees, including whether Bergdahl really got lost or was actively looking for the Taliban when he was captured.

Nothing. Every jailhouse lawyer at Leavenworth would be doing that if it worked.

Right, but what happens when a citizen joins and then renounces?

He is still in the service until discharged.

And the answer is:

802. ARTICLE 2. PERSONS SUBJECT TO THIS CHAPTER01. General Provisions

(b) The voluntary enlistment of any person who has the capacity to understand the significance of enlisting in the armed forces shall be valid for purposes of jurisdiction under subsection (a) and change of status from civilian to member of the armed forces shall be effective upon the taking of the oath of enlistment.

(c) Notwithstanding any other provision of law, a person serving with an armed force who–

(1) Submitted voluntarily to military authority;

(2) met the mental competence and minimum age qualifications of sections 504 and 505 of this title at the time of voluntary submissions to military authority:

Thank goodness for the Daily Mail and the Canadian press. Our press corps are repulsive.

Yep! We have to get our news from foreign sources for it to be honest.

Thank you.

Relevant sections:

B. ELEMENTS OF RENUNCIATION

A person wishing to renounce his or her U.S. citizenship must voluntarily and with intent to relinquish U.S. citizenship:

appear in person before a U.S. consular or diplomatic officer,
in a foreign country (normally at a U.S. Embassy or Consulate);
and sign an oath of renunciation

Renunciations that do not meet the conditions described above have no legal effect.

E. TAX & MILITARY OBLIGATIONS /NO ESCAPE FROM PROSECUTION

Persons who wish to renounce U.S. citizenship should be aware of the fact that renunciation of U.S. citizenship may have no effect whatsoever on his or her U.S. tax or military service obligations (contact the Internal Revenue Service or U.S. Selective Service for more information). In addition, the act of renouncing U.S. citizenship does not allow persons to avoid possible prosecution for crimes which they may have committed in the United States, or escape the repayment of financial obligations previously incurred in the United States or incurred as United States citizens abroad.

This Bergdahl is nothing but a low-life, stinking turncoat, who is responsible for 6 American deaths trying to rescue his sorry ass, and probably helped kill others while working with the Jihadists. I say try him and fry him.

BTW, Odumsh*t & Co. really thot they were going to score points with this stunt, and now its blowing up in their faces. The parade in Bergdahl's hometown has been cancelled. I'll just bet Obama or one of his stooges planned to show up there and bask in some of the "glory." Obama, Kerry, Hegel and the rest of them are the most incompetent bunch who has ever run this country, bar none. Even Jimmuh ibn Qartar, aka Jimmy Carter, is John Wayne compared to Barak Hussein Obama.

My conspiratorial nature is causing me to think he actually would welcome impeachment proceedings, because it would unify and motivate the Leftist base just as it did the last time we had a criminal-in-chief in the WH.

Doesn’t matter if he renounces his citizenship, he was never discharged from the service, so he is still under Army jurisdiction.

Thanks for the links. Amazing. So WHY did he enlist? Didn’t the Tarot tell him it was dangerous? Perhaps that was the reason — dangerous in a compelling way? (”Hurt me, please.”) Who can figure out such twisted minds?

I have to say, however, that I lived in San Francisco for ten years and know for a fact that not all male ballet dancers are gay. Baryshnikov has three children, Peter Martins of the NY City ballet has two.

Obama could get caught filming a gay snuff film with underage boys in the Oval Office and still wouldn’t be impeached.

Probably win a Golden Globe too.

“So how does that work with the Army? If he renounced his citizenship, can the Army still court-martial him? Does the Army have any authority over him at all at this (non-citizen) point?”

Non-citizens have been serving in the military since the founding of the nation. About 8000 non citizens enlist every year. http://usmilitary.about.com/od/joiningthemilitary/a/Immigrantenlist.htm

In fact the current POTUS is about to allow illegal immigrants inside the US to enlist in the armed forces:

And now so do the citizens of Idaho. I wonder what will happen to him there.

He'll move. Maybe out of state, maybe out of country. Detroitistan is a possibility, or Paterson, NJ.

Yeah, I don’t believe all ballet dancers are homosexual, I don’t think Bowe was either but I don’t think the mooselimbs cared. He was just a weak, pretty, dancing boy for them.

I’m pretty sure they did what they wanted with him. Bowe was a jackass that caused other men to be killed because of his foolish and selfish decision. For this Bowe should be punished harshly by the United States.

I suppose we will see if he has since changed his mind from the decision he made the day he walked off. I do believe the tears he showed— in one of those videos put out by the mooselimbs— were gut-sick tears. They were real and pained tears.

I feel bad anybody suffers but I have no sympathy for him. He made his decision and caused not only himself to suffer for his decision but caused others to die because of it. To hell with Bowe.
