Everyone knew we were working/negotiating with the Taliban...that was in the media reports....but a trade and the release of 5 monsters was not part of that news at any point in time until it was over. Actually, the Taliban said upfront (years ago) they wanted those 5 to be released.
It was considered to be too high a price, until now. I'll leave it to you to speculate what changed.
