That's not true at all. I've known several over the years and they are top flight and fearless. Moreover, they don't have to put up with all the risk-adverse and political correctness nonsense that we foist on our pilots.

The Air Force was the drunkest branch due to limitless ethanol provided for de-icing. Some of the pilots even rigged taps to fill bottles in flight from the de-icer tank.

That may be. But they don’t compare to US pilots and they lose to US pilots in realistic war gaming simulations.
Because the U.S. pilots are backed by better weapons, radar, command, control, and communications technology. Man for man though, Russian pilots are just as good as ours.

This happened on a daily basis during the 80’s when I flew EP-3s over there. The fighters would come alongside, take pictures and return home. Sometimes when we were on a new or different track, they’d stay with us.
This is nothing new.
