What’s the opposite of common core?

The historical truth and doing math the way it was done in the 1950s; tables and rote memorization.

Exactly. Which is what vouchers would lead to: doing the three R’s the right way. For everyone. Including for “minority” children. But the billionaire Obama’s with their daughters in Sidwell, are fighting tooth and nail against vouchers.

If anyone is interested, this video gives all the info on Common Core. It’s the worst thing ever. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Si-kx5-MKSE#t=1713

Obama is’t the end of America.

Common Core is the end of America.

It’s DESIGNED to be the end of America.

It’s the frickin’ coup de grâce.

I also think we need vouchers/charter schools so parents have choice.

But in the end you need a quantitative way to evaluate the output of the different schools. While there are parts of common core that may need tweaking the idea of a national standard in education and measuring against it seems prudent.

To many parents thing johnny is doing good because he’s passing each year gettings b’s when he is in fact unable to pass anything in another better school and they don’t know it.

Even GWB understood this need.

Even so, I don’t trust her in this. She was way involved with Common Core, and now she wants to blame others for it.

The old math got us to the moon and built the internet. The new math makes it necessary for the cash register at McDonald’s to make change because those behind the counter can’t.

When I was in school (ancient history: the forties and fifties), there was something called the Iowa test.

It seemed a fair test of general skills in math, English, history and geography.

It had nothing to do with your grade, but ended up on your report card and the school district considered it in grading its schools.

I've always wondered "What the hell was wrong with that?"

They think they dumped it.

How will they go to every school and into every classroom and make sure the teachers aren’t using it?

Apparently Common Core is about “fairness” in that it seeks to make all kids imbeciles equally

No.

You don’t need an evaluation mechanism for each school blessed by the sanctified and holy government.

We didn’t have that before and we were world leaders in education.

We’re there merit in your statement that would not have been so.

Schools doing things right demonstrate their prowess by the achievement of the students later in life.

Call me old fashioned.

Are you referring to the Iowa Basic Skills Test? Wow, it’s been decades but you jogged my memory!

Yep...the old math also got us the transcontinental railroad, the Panama Canal, the Empire State building, the Golden Gate Bridge, the 8th Air Force, etc...all without a single computer or pocket calculator.

Are you referring to the Iowa Basic Skills Test?

Yes.

Taking it, I thought it was both a fair and comprehensive test of knowledge/skills.

There was none of this "teaching to the test" crap, either.

Do you have proof of this spurious accusation?

"To many parents thing johnny is doing good"

'TOO' not 'TO' ... and 'WELL' is the adverb, modifying 'doing.' 'Johnny' is a proper noun so is CAPitalized. I'm sure 'thing' was a mere errant finger and I probably spun off a typo myself.

Wonko may be right, but Wonko do'snt speakink tipe good.

“Do you have proof of this spurious accusation?”

I think this proves it, at least for me:

“Fallin, who initially supported the national standards, claimed the plot started out with good intentions. “Unfortunately, federal overreach has tainted Common Core,””

She somehow thought that the federal government wouldn’t take it over...that was INCREDIBLY STUPID on her part.

She signed the law, she issued an EO continuing it, but supposedly without federal dollars, and she was the head of the NGA while that organization was developing the implementation plan.

I felt kind of like a jerk posting that. The truth is ... when we’re punching out replies and emails at breakneck speed... we (I) make mistakes all over the place ... I just thought it was funny in the context of us all making fun of the Common Propaganda.

I almost married a beautiful Russian a couple years ago - NOT a mail order bride. She had very good grammar ... in Russia, they take Calculus in 10th grade. So, not dumb at all - business degree from Bentley, been her 17 years.

But, she was making fun of her friends ... their bad grammar. She said “Some of my friends ... their English ... they sound like they are Illiteral.”

Just a mistake, but in the context of making fun of others, it was perfect, since she, at that moment, was completely ‘illiteral.’

Happy weekend !

All I ask of the public school system is that they produce 17-18 year olds that can just read, write, and count. Is that so hard?
