Iran Deploys Quds Forces To Support Iraqi Troops, Helps Retake Most Of Tikrit By Howard Koplowitz@howardkoplowitz on June 12 2014 1:55 PM Iran Deploys Forces To Iraq, Helps Retake Tikrit An elite branch of Iran's Revolutionary Guard is in Iraq fighting alongside Iraqi troops in a battle against an al-Qaeda affiliated militant group. \

Two battalions of the Quds Forces are already making progress in their fight against the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, or ISIS, the Wall Street Journal reported. The militant group took control of Saddam Hussein’s hometown of Tikrit on Wednesday, but Revolutionary Guard and Iraqi troops overtook 85 percent of the city on Thursday, Iraqi and Iranian security forces told the paper.

Iran, which is dominated by Shiites, has close ties to Iraq’s Shiite-led government. Iranian President Hassan Rouhani called ISIS “an extremist, terrorist group that is acting savagely” during an appearance on state television, Al Jazeera reported. "For our part, as the government of the Islamic Republic of Iran ... we will combat violence, extremism and terrorism in the region and the world."

The Iranian military is considering shifting troops fighting in Syria, where forces are supporting Syrian President Bashar Assad’s government, to Iraq if the deployment of the Quds Forces doesn’t make any progress in the latest offensive.

The Times of London said 150 members of the Quds Forces are in Iraq, where ISIS militants seized Mosul, Iraq’s second-largest city, earlier this week.

Meanwhile, ISIS continue to vow that it would soon march on Baghdad.

“'Our final destination will be Baghdad, the decisive battle will be there,' that’s what their leader kept repeating," a tribal figure near Tikrit relayed to Reuters.

Great development as Iran is now seizing Iraq. A total mess.

While in the Oval Office the Commander-In-Chief is planning America’s response... from under his desk.

They are going to leave a "stabilizing force" on the ground. Which is what Obama wouldn't do.

Does that Imply that Obama is a Sunni or a Shia?

If they have been planning this for months, and they have, they have prepositioned assets in Baghdad already.

I fear a surprise on our soil while this is going on. Afterall they have 5 released leaders that can probably multi-task.

They aren’t worried about attacking the US right now. They hoping that Obama will come back into the Middle East turmoil on the side of Iran and united Islamic caliphate.

Given that no other media outlet has corroborated this story, I’m skeptical. Tikrit is populated by Sunni Arabs. I’d be surprised if an American division could capture in a day, let alone a few Iranian battalions.

I guess Obama will let Iran have its nukes and Iraq too??? I’m beginning to think we need to make a Sadaam Hussein in test tube to restore order in Iraq and keep the Iranians in check.

Saddam must be spinning in his grave at the thought of Persian Shiite Quds forces in his hometown. The Sunnis there are not going to stand by and let this happen.

The Iranian Quds probably have a more liberal interpretation of their rules of engagment than we do. Particularly when dealing with “civilians.”

And so the Middle East devolves into anarchy and chaos under the tender mercies of seventh-century animals, and the administration does what?

Question for the group: Why did Obama, several times, in his statement this morning refer to the rebels as ISIL, instead of the ISIS as I’ve heard it referred to by everyone else.

Every Iraqi household is armed with AK-47's and possibly even RPG's. Cities are death traps for infantry operating without air and artillery support. A light infantry force of several battalions like the one in the article would be pinned down all the time and shot to hell in a city of hundreds of thousands like Tikrit.

Right now they have their sights on Baghdad and Karbala. They are going to utilize mass suicide bombings to clear defenses and disrupt those cities. They now call this “The March” to Baghdad. By the time Obama decides to do anything, it will be all over.

I am also. But I suspect Iranians are entering Iraq. In other locations government forces numbering in the thousands appear to be collapsing before zealots numbering in the hundreds. The government army and police the US established appear to be both cowardly and compromised. In 1972 in Viet Nam when really large NVA forces attacked the ARVN a number of compromised or covert communist sleepers in responsible positions aided significantly in creating a major disaster in I Corps. This being an Arab country it goes without saying that duplicity and treasonable conduct is common and the government forces are filled with sleepers or other Fifth Columnists.

HUGE - and now Russia has tanks rolling through Ukraine.
The world as we know it is falling apart thanks to zero’s “I’m not George Bush” foreign policy and he is likely off playing golf. Or giving interviews about how hard it is to be a dad with a teenage daughter.
