OBAMA ADMINISTRATION’S CLAIM THAT LOIS LERNER’S EMAILS ARE “LOST” IS LUDICROUS (IRS security)
Power Line ^ | 06/16/2014 | JOHN HINDERAKER

---snip--- Further, emails are universally backed up in some other medium, often electronic tape, for long-term storage. Thus, even if an email server is destroyed, or all emails are deleted from a server after a specified length of time, the emails are still recoverable from back-up storage media. The DOJ lawyer whom Scott quoted this morning was correct about this. The IRS, like virtually every other business or government entity, uses such a system. The Agency’s manual on “Managing Electronic Records” has been made public; you can read it here. A few relevant excerpts:

18 minutes of Nixon tapes vs. two years of emails. Where is the outrage?

If all of the many copies are gone the NSA must be the ones who found them all and deleted them for the IRS.

Right you are. It doesn’t. The basic technical knowledge of most IT managers I’ve known is pathetic.

Nixon is in fact what this is all about.

Obama did the very thing Nixon was about to be impeached for.

If this gets out to the public millions of younger Americans will get a good education in what really happened in the 70's. That's why the media is covering the whole IRS story up.

Nixon is just a vague name for most people.
This business is something for today. The proper attack is to go after IRS people on corruption charges. Nobody likes the IRS, and that is easier to sell.

They put Judith Miller in prison for not revealing her sources which was her right as a journalist. Put Lois Lerner in prison until the e-mails are produced. No e-mails no release. Period.

Anybody with two functioning brain cells knows these Lener email aren't "lost" ...

Obama is pissing on Congresses leg...

Holder is Obama consigliere in his criminal enterprise and the Congressional House can't do jack unless the Senate goes to the GOP...

Lerner’s “inbox” is a file in a directory. It contains email from all senders, both internal and external. Likewise for the “sent” e-mail, it is a file in a directory and it contains email sent to all recipients, both internal and external.

A disk failure corrupting the inbox file is not going to selectively destroy only email from external senders.

A disk failure corrupting the sent file is not going to selectively destroy only email sent to external recipients.

A disk failure corrupting so precisely BOTH these files.... is a Mount Everest of BS.

And for what its worth, the US government, its personnel, the press, and even the politicians were far less partisan, far less corrupt, and had much better personal morals back then. The left exploited the fundamental honesty of the system. These days Nixon’s activities or their modern equivalents could not possibly rate such a political crisis.

Most definitely. However, in doing so Nixon's name would come up again and again.

Elijah Cummings is up to his eyeballs in the scandal. I’m sure he was in many of the emails and no one has the balls to eject him from the investigating committee. He was a participant in the targeting. I imagine there were some establishment republicans on board with this too. Boehner, McConnell and Cantor come to mind.

In my previous job, we were “advised” not to send e-mails that could be deemed non-professional. Even though we might erase said emails from our personal Outlook or Lotus Notes files, they were BY LAW backed up regularly to secure offsite servers.

In other words, if a private corporation claimed to have “lost” 2 years of e-mails from their CEO, the government fines probably would be sufficiently high to pay off a day or two of the National Debt.

He's got a good chance of getting away with it, too.

My first thought was this should make it simple for any competent prosecutor to prove obstruction of justice. Instead of looking at this as a set back I think it is a huge break for conservatives. I wonder how many other laws were broken in the LernerGate cover up?

According to the IRS Commissioner last March, he had a “team” of agents pouring through Lerner’s emails, redacting sensitive material. Clearly the emails were in their possession, actively being reviewed by a team of agents, who were altering the documents.

Who is/was on the team?

Who is/was the custodian of records for the IRS?

Which emails were redacted?

Who made the decision as to which emails were being redacted?

Who made the decision as to what part of the emails were to be redacted?

What was the process for redaction?

What software program, if any, was used in the redaction process?
