Breaking news update! Iraqis shut down internet at U.S. Embassy in Baghdad
The Examiner ^ | June 14, 2014 | Susy Raybon

Posted on 06/15/2014 3:51:52 PM PDT by Star Traveler

A three word text was released from inside the Embassy about six hours ago: “Too late Alamo.” That message is open to interpretation.

Just minutes ago news came from within the United States Embassy in Baghdad that the Iraqis have shut down internet service for those barricaded inside. Limited text messages via private cell phones are still coming through.

It is unknown how many of the more than 5,000 U.S. civilians in Baghdad are actually taking refuge inside the embassy compound. NBC war correspondent, Richard Engel reported last night that civilians in and around Baghdad have boarded up residences and businesses.

The embassy lockup is a reminder of when Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait in August of 1990 and U.S. civilians were held hostage for months, including those from the State Department and Department of Transportation.

This week ISIS terrorists operating in Iraq have toppled Fallujah, Ramadi, Tikrit, and Mosul, robbing the Bank of Mosul for more than $450 million dollars. ISIS leaders now claim they are the richest terror group in the world, topping al Qaeda and Hamas. This militant group has vowed to overrun Baghdad, the nation's capital, and eliminate the Shiite ruling party.

This was the very first entry.

He hasn't so far.

"The only competition I can think of is Caligula."

It was Nero who fiddled (or played the cithara) while Rome burned. Some say he started the fire and put the blame on the Christians, who he had executed. Even though it is not certain what Nero did while Rome burned to the ground, we do know what Zer0 is doing. Zer0.

“Common denominator in 1975 and 2014: Traitorous Democrats.”

Largely true, although in 1975 we had a semi-Republican President that had probably played football too many years without a helmet. And see if this sounds familiar - he ignored solid Republican principals and tried to cow-tow to the liberals and democraps, - and lost anyway.

Seems they are doing this because they fear ISIS is using the internet to coordinate attacks. They've been shutting it down in various places for several days.

That particular story is a Drudge composite of the story released yesterday that we were removing non-essential personnel from the Green Zone, and the stories of Baghdad bombings over the last several weeks. The personnel removed were replaced with additional security personnel.

Regarding Obama, he would be just as ineffective in the White House war room as he is on the golf course

Remember, his trip was scheduled weeks ago and the war in Iraq wasn’t scheduled at all.

And that means that the CIA knew for some time. And the military new for some time. And the Dems knew and the GOP knew.

Did any of them DO anything to prevent thousands of American soldiers lives from being lost in vain?

nope. Not one got on TV and said “Mr.President, Don’t piss this away”.

Not one.

If I was ISIS, I would be moving my armored divisions (the tanks they captured) to that airport now. Iraq’s air capability is poor, and Tehran would take a while to scramble any response. Once the airport is captured, they can jack a jet and fly it into Baghdad central.

I don’t think they’ll evaporate per se. The shias will put up somewhat of a fight. But we have 2 sides involved that both hate America with the Iraqi gov’t being ambivalent. Iran isn’t going to help us. ISIS ain’t going to help us. The embassy is essentially waiting for someone to pluck it. Whether it’ll be Iranians or ISIS. Who knows.

A week from now will be the time frame because oil was already purchased for this week about a month or six weeks ago, and this weeks gas will be determined by the cost of a barrel of oil at the time of the purchase....prices are changed weekly. Now there are a few gougers...but consumers usually punish them later.

missions like these is why we have a 75th Ranger Regiment, to clear and hold airports. Just a matter of will to use them. Also, we could hold the Green Zone with Marines if we needed to. I really don’t think anyone is going to mind us blasting ISIS off of the planet.

I don’t care. If Muslims slaughter each other, that’s good for us.

Fewer of them around to slaughter us. They both hate us and as the old saying goes, no good deed goes unpunished.

May their internecine warfare last forever and may both sides lose.

If they cut off the airport, they cut off the primary means of escape for Weterners and their supporters to get out.

This going to be a real bloodbath, IMHO, if the reports getting out are accurate.

Westerners really haven’t paid attention to what is happening. Maybe seeing American workers getting lined up and shot by ISIS militias might make them realize this is a bad situation we’ve let happen.

Obama, unfortunately, isn’t interested in securing the thousands of Americans in Iraq. I’m sure his excuse will be, “hey, I told them to get out 2 days before the airport was captured. What more do you want from me?”

Tell him that ISIS is a GOP group, he might actually do something to stop them.
