The USS Mesa Verde with 550 Marines on board entered the Gulf on Monday to support possible U.S. action to help Iraq's Shi'ite-led government combat a Sunni Islamist insurgency that has overtaken large areas of the country's north, CNN reported. The USS Mesa Verde joins the aircraft carrier USS George H.W. Bush, which the Pentagon ordered on Saturday to move into the Gulf. President Barack Obama has said he is considering military action, short of putting U.S. troops in Iraq, to aid that government's efforts to stop the insurgency.

The Islamist militant group that has seized control of parts of Iraq has been outlawed in the UK.

The Home Office said it would be a criminal offence to associate with or give financial backing to the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (Isis).

Marines are bad to the bone but 550 of them is not to fight back an army of terrorists armed with our weapons. They’re there to evacuate.

I’ve spoken with several South Viet Nam soldiers who said they were over run because democrats cut off funding. One guy said he only had enough fuel to fly directly to a target and back. He said the North Viet Namese would move their camp. He could see them but didn’t have the fuel to get there and back to base. There was hand to hand fighting on a bridge leading into Saigon because the soldiers ran out of ammo. Saigon fell because democrats abandoned them and Ford didn’t have the balls to say “Screw you, dems! We’re not going to allow this to happen.” Obama is going to let Bagdad fall.

This is going exactly to Obama’s handler’s plan. They want the retarded muslims to take over Iraq, so they needed the US out and they got it. Now they just need us to stay out, and Obama has said he will do that. He is a good Manchurian puppet.

Our nephew is on an MV-22 crew and he’s been qualified to do almost every job on with the most recent qualification being his wings. I messaged him telling him I hope none of his friends were among the 100-150 sent to secure the embassy and that we were glad he was back in the US and safe. No response, which is very unlike him so I’m thinking he may have been pulled into this.

I feel for those people in the embassy, but especially those contractors that were surrounded. I hope they can get everyone out.

You’re right - look at this garbage, Obama thinks there’s time for diplomacy to work in Iraq. Really????

Somehow an openly gay american news anchor in Baghdad may be not be the smartest idea if you run into or trapped by an Isis terrorist cell.

Does anybody remember a term coined (I think by Nixon) called “Vietnaminization”?

Whereby as US forces slowly pull out and empower South Vietnamese forces to fill our vacuum? We saw that crumble like a house of cards.

It wasn't Nixon's Vietnamization.

Vietnam fell when a large number of leftist Democrats entered the House of Representatives and voted to cut off funding to Vietnam. Vietnam, like Iraq, could have resisted and retained some measure of stability if the United States, under Democratic Party governance (even though Ford was President), had supported the southern government.

It was shameful then and shameful now.

Ford and Carter and the Dems abandoned Vietnam. Clinton abandoned Iraq after Bush I, and Obama abandoned Iraq and Afghanistan after Bush II.

Shaemful.

You are wrong, that’s the myth. Vietnamization was working. The DEAL was we would continue to supply them with supplies and air power as needed. If we had kept our part of the deal Saigon would not have fallen. The NVA invaded with more armor then then was at the battle of Kursk. US air power would have completely destroyed it. When we turned our backs that’s when the ARVN was overwhelmed and list.

Yes. Read Nixon's and Ford's accounts of the events.

Liberal leftist Democrats in the House sent tens of thousands of South Vietnamese literally into the sea, as it was a better choice than facing the NVA savages.

And, btw, two or three million Cambodians were exterminated because of the self-righteous liberalism of Democratic Party House members.

As bad and imperfect are the results when the U.S. jumps into overseas war and sticks to the mission, they are rather better than the alternative of pulling out and abandoning our allies to our enemies.

Back then it was Soviet Russia which reaped the benefits. Today it is hegemonic Islam.

The news "blackout" that seems to be in effect will ensure that there are no optics.

I have no doubt the ISIS videographers will be more than happy to provide that piece of prized propaganda to the world. Footage of our defeat will ALWAYS be available for public viewing.

Back in the early 90's, I had the privilege of working with a Cambodian refugee. He was a Lieutenant in the Cambodian Navy. When the Khymer was about to take over in the mid 70s, he gathered up his son and pregnant wife and took to the boats, with nothing but the clothes on their backs.

His daughter was born in Hershey, PA, for which she was named.

He was an estimator for a steel fabrication company in Shreveport when I worked with him. I was a salesman for the company. His wife operated their custom drapery shop.

He was one of the more uplifting acquaintances in my working career.
