A Texas woman who became a convicted felon for causing a 2004 car crash that killed her fiancé has learned that General Motors (GM) counts the accident as one of 13 deaths it blames on its defective ignition switches.

Candice Anderson was driving her 2004 Saturn Ion in Canton, Texas, with her fiancé Mikale Erickson in November 2004 when she lost control of the vehicle and crashed. Mr. Erickson, the father of two small children, was killed. Ms. Anderson was thrown through the windshield and barely survived the crash herself. The vehicle’s airbags never deployed.

Police could find no causes for the crash – no skid marks or other evidence that would indicate why the crash occurred. Tests showed that Ms. Anderson was drug- and alcohol-free at the time of the crash. Tests showed that she had only a trace amount of anti-anxiety medication in her system at the time.

Until people care about bringing God back into their pictures, such efforts will fizzle against the laughing minions of hell that are behind injstice in the world.

GM is not legally liable for the negligence of the former GM. They are surely going to try to avoid any obligation to pay for this negligence.

They will claim that Motors Liquidation Company is responsible as that is the actual corporation formerly known as General Motors.

I’d hope this state of affairs would be enough to garner a state pardon for the woman. “Do not seek your own vengeance, beloved: ‘Vengeance is mine, I will repay’ saith the Lord.” If there is no repenting there is only damnation left. But that is true for all of us.

I would think they waived that right when they chose to recall all of the vehicles that this switch is installed in. U can’t have it both ways.

Of course you can have it both ways. That is why they where saved and the entire bankruptcy was a travesty and illegal as all hell.

I’m going to throw out a guess here . . . this woman is going to be very, very wealthy in the near future.

In general, I would agree with you. As much as I despise frivolous lawsuits, which includes most tort cases and most product liability cases, this one is so egregious that it should be seen as justified. I would love to see GM pay out 100% of their assets to the victims of this coverup, with an exceptionally large share for the widow in this case. Unfortunately, Old GM (General Motors - the irresponsible party) no longer exists, and New GM (Government Motors) has been ruled to be a separate company that is not responsible for claims against Old GM. It helps if you run an evil and corrupt company to have corrupt connections in high places.

I understand. Sometimes I think I am Rip Van Winkle. I can not believe how quickly things have gotten terrible and lawless.

This woman was not drunk, just had an accident. But the prosecuted her anyway. Every prosecutor, cop, and GM employee involved ought to be in prison.

Disgusting. There is no longer “justice for all” in America. The cops, the DA and GM management are all culpable.

This was pre-bankruptcy.
She’ll likely get no more than the settlement doled out by Kenny Feinberg.

I’m always amazed that Texas is constantly held up as some bastion of freedom, when story after story like this keeps coming out of there.

While you’re no doubt right, as I believe Mark Twain once observed “If that’s the law, the law is an ass”

Not Twain. Dickens, in Oliver Twist. The words were uttered by Mr. Bumble, the parish beadle.
