HOUSTON, Texas—Governor Rick Perry (R-TX) appeared on Fox News’ Fox and Friends show and said Texas lacks the resources and manpower to secure the 1,200 mile Texas border with Mexico.

The comment sent shock waves through a Texas grassroots discussion thread on Facebook this morning of activists who are seeking a special session call from the Governor to deal with the issue of border security.

Texas National Guard. They go back a long way.

I'm still not certain how many "Guards" we're talking about here.Of course Texas has an Army and Air National Guard...as do the other 49 states. But I've seen references made in this thread to some kind of *state* guard, one over which Osama Obama, presumably, would have no immediate, direct command authority.

I was out on Sandy Hook, NJ. The old mortar batteries were inundated by poison ivy, obviously planted intentionally. There were also cacti and other noxious plants. They used to know what they were doing.

Darn right!!! Call for armed & able volunteers. They won’t be able to issue ID badges fast enough.

The mahogany-row bureaucrats, professional politicians, and fraction-of-a-percent crony capitalists like Bill Gates surely don't give a crap, since they live in fortified compounds and drive around in armored limos or retire to villas in the French Alps.

The rest of us have to live with the consequences of their shortsighted stupidity. I believe more and more of us are tiring of the elites feckless criminality. Just don't let them break you down. That is what they want.

He just doesn't want to do anything. Might hurt his presidential chances.

Used to be the elites had conservatives on their side. I think that is changing, it has in my circle.

The GOP simply does not believe its own rhetoric, any more than the Dems believe in theirs. The GOP claims to believe in small government, but what they really mean is this: “Give us the reins of government and we will deliver the goods and grow the beast more efficiently, and maybe trim some of that bureaucratic fat while we’re at it.” Many GOP governors are doing marvels, but the Washington-Republican establishment seems to have little use for them. Conservatism for them is just a talking point, a tool to drag out of the toolbox at election time to get votes, and to be carefully cleaned off and put back into the box after the election is over.
