“obama blundered big time”

In many policy areas, that’s true. But in Iraq? How did he blunder? He got us out of there - a place we never should have been. Unless you say the US should have occupied Iraq forever — is that what you’re saying?

The Bush-Cheney invasion destabilized Iraq, and made today’s chaos inevitable. That’s the difficult truth that Bushbots on Freerepublic can’t handle.

I'm not a Rand Paul fan... but I will say this.... I've been against the Iraq war since day one. I was never interested in sending our guys to get all shot up so we could plant democracy in an arab country. It was a dumb, not achievable idea then and it remains so. I am a fan of President Bush but he and his people were wrong at that time.

After 9-11 President Bush said we would chase down terrorists where ever they are. That any country that provided comfort to those terrorists would be treated as the terrorists. We all loved that sentiment and agreed with it. But our country did not have the political will to do that. If we had truly pursued that strategy, the war would have been over in about 2 years and we would not have all of our young men and women shot up.

So when I hear Dick Cheney (like I did this morning) I'd like to tell him to go back to producing oil and gas and get out of world politics.

“Bam dropped the ball”

How? By having US troops leave Iraq on the schedule that Bush had approved?

Do you want US troops to stay in Iraq forever? And if not forever, how long - and how much will it cost American taxpayers, — and how much more borrowing from China to pay for it?

I so doubt you’ll offer any specific answers. So many Bushbots say they’re concerned with the cost of government programs and the massive debt we’re in — but they’re fine with trillion dollar wars in the Middle East.

We don’t need to support anyone in Iraq. There is no one there worth supporting. They all worship Allah and in the end they are all someone who will stab us in the back when given the chance. We do not need to sell weapons there. We do not need to arm anyone there. At the end of the day, they are ALL going to be our enemies.

OK, so Bush/Cheney did decide to invade Iraq. Saddam was ousted. If they stopped there and left, that would have been not so bad. But then we spent Billions in nation building and attempt to democratize Iraq. That was utter waste of blood and treasure.

Please, future presidents, do not waste any more blood and treasure trying to democratize any Muslim country for 50 more years.

Pretty much right on target....

Uh, no. Obama owns this. He has been in power for 6 years and the shift from victory to defeat is evident in our foreign policy and defense postures for the last 6 years.

You guys and Obama have it backwards, pulling out was the mistake.

You should also quit pretending that our true reasons were to create pure democracies like in a children’s book, we needed to penetrate into that region of war which was and is increasingly focused on conquering Christendom.

We should have stayed there to help protect the sane ones trying to move into the 19th or 20th century, and to keep the ones who want to consolidate and destroy the West, weak and without a base, and especially not a nation base.

Not surprised that you call names instead of answering the facts I laid out. They can’t be answered. Bush put the current pro-Iran gov’t in power. With money borrowed from the Chinese to finance our invasion.

That’s a fact, Jack. Name-calling won’t change the truth.

you saying our invasion of Iraq was to defend “Christendom”?

What a joke. Iraq’s Christians have nearly been decimated since we invaded and ousted Saddam. For all his evil, he actually protected the country’s Christians from the Islamists. His evil = brutality - was mainly used to keep the Islamists down., By removing him, we triggered a civil war - and the mass killing of Christians (which started as early as 2004, long before Obama came in).

You laid out falsehoods. You know nothing of facts, Jack. But go back onto Bush hating and name calling.

Oh, well, nothing new here. Can’t talk facts with Bushbots. They can’t handle the truth.

You’ll make a great pom-pom waver in the Jeb for president campaign.

All we need to keep the terrorists over there “at bay” is good intelligence, and the willingness to use our technological advantage to destroy them. We do not need our guys and gals over there getting shot up to protect people who have no real allegiance to us anyway, and who never will.

You know... I like George W Bush. I would vote for him again. I believe he is sincere and a decent man. I think he was wrongly belittled by the media etc. He was not a bad president. But I do believe the middle east foreign policy was not good. He articulated a policy I like in the days after 9-11, but somehow we lacked the political conviction to make it happen.

Cheney on the other hand..... he needs to stick to producing oil and gas.

Yes, now we need to find more leaders to protect the West and the world from the march of Islam and what is coming.

Obama and you are the opposite of what we need.

You would be wrong if you thought I was a “bushbot.” Bush and no one in his administration sold me on going into Iraq. It’s just like Obama never sold me on taking action against Libya or Syria.

Going into Iraq was wrong. Maintaining stability in Iraq after we had control was important too. That is where Obama failed miserably. We’re talking two exclusive events/situations. Could it be that both failed? Yeah, I know Bush failed. Obama failed too and Rand should’t let him off the hook for it.
