“My vote is for Nevada to annex all the California counties that border Nevada. “

And why is that a good idea? Nevada is worse than California in that one city, Las Vegas controls the entire state. Most of the Nevada Reps are from Clark County plus you would get Harry Reid for one of your Senators. No thanks, if we are going to carve ourselves up, we don’t need and connection with either Nevada or Oregon. There are more Commies to the square mile in Oregon than in California. Any state that would elect a cretin like Blumenauer (the guy with the Dayglo bicycle pin on his lapel) is beyond salvation. BTW, my wife grew up in Las Vegas and refuses to go back now that her parents have passed. What she calls it cannot be written here. Like California, you should have some compassion for the people who don’t live in the major population centers. They are where the problem lies, but that’s true of every state in the Union.

“*PS: The owner and manager of this site, Jim Robinson lives in a very conservative area.”

Jim’s in Fresno, not a “very conservative area.” Like Stockton and Sacramento, Fresno has gang problems among other issues, but I think you can get a CCW permit there. Our last Commie Lt. Governor, Cruz Bustamante came from Fresno. He headed up the Aztlan Group at Fresno State as I recall.
Maybe Jim can enlighten us all.

Sadly, you are correct. The sin city does indeed screw the rest of the state. But isn’t that what typically is the case across the country? Urban centers with high population density end up having the final say on what’s “best” for all the fly-over rubes?

If they split it into 6, that would make 2 or 3 of the states Red or slightly Red. The huge liberal areas of LA and the Bay Area would have most of the population, and each would be part of one state. It would increase the number of Democrats in the Senate, but not as much as you might think. Northern California above SF and the Central Valley are very conservative. Inland empire, San Diego and Orange County are moderate, with conservative congressional districts (Duncan Hunter, for example) and a few liberal ones.

I do think the state needs to be split up, but we should probably fix what Obama has broken first, if we can, then, when it is safe to take a chance on having new Democrat Senators, think about such an idea. If there is a wave that results in 56 or 58 Republican Senators in the next couple cycles, it might be possible to do it and still retain a majority. Breaking up California's power would be good for the country long term.

Senators were intended to represent state interests. The House of Representatives represent the people of a state. We need to repeal the 14th amendment as a major step the reign in the federal government.

A member of the US House represents members of his district, not the state, but the senators do represent the entire state.

You position on the 14th indicates that your interests lay with "the way things ought to be", whereas it is better to concentrate on the way things actually are.

Based on the way things are, the two biggest problems with congress are gerrymandered house districts and a committee system in both the House and Senate that has evolved into a system of gatekeepers that is used to raise money, especially if it is an appropriations committee, in which case the top gatekeepers are called "Congressional Cardinals".

I wish Texas would do this. I think we would get at least six more conservative senators.

The northeast states with two senators is the primary source of our anti conservative oligarchy.

Maybe we should have 100 states instead of 50.

East and West Tennessee? I like it. (Of course; East Tennessee would have to be renamed State of Franklin at some point.)

Based upon the way things are, gerrymandering and congressional committees are not going away. You would have more success repealing the 14th.
