The consensus is: it’s no accident. More than three-quarters of voters -- 76 percent -- think the emails missing from the account of Lois Lerner, the ex-IRS official at the center of the scandal over targeting of conservative groups, were deliberately destroyed.
That’s according to a new Fox News poll.
That suspicion is shared across party lines, albeit to varying degrees. An overwhelming 90 percent of Republicans think the emails were intentionally destroyed, as do 74 percent of independents and 63 percent of Democrats.

Overall, just 12 percent of voters believe the emails were destroyed accidentally. Another 12 percent are unsure.

If I lose my documentation for taxes, the IRS is allowed to assume anything they want to decide my taxes.
Seems to me, if the IRS loses their documentation, the court should be allowed to assume anything they want in deciding the IRS heads jail term.

But perhaps it is because the IRS is making up a bunch of fake emails with back dates (install a virtual machine with an AD DS domain and an Exchange server and change the date to five years ago)... Anyway they can say...
“Look we found the emails and no smoking gun in them at all!”

Looking at the timeline...
1) Congress announces they want to see Lerner’s emails
2) Shortly afterwards, Lerner’s hard drive crashes - Oops! Email stored on servers disappear (HUH???).
3) Weeks after congress announces they want to see Lerner’s emails, the IRS terminates the contract with their Email archiving company. The archiving company deletes the stored data (when your business is storage, space is money, and you don’t keep the data of non-clients)
4) IRS claims that they have a 6 month rotation on their tape rotation, so 6 months later, all backups are gone.
5) Since the archiving contract was terminated, there is no long term data recovery available.
Yup, looks like a coordinated set of events to ensure that those subpoenaed emails are gone.
