MAHWAH, N.J. – Two New York men are suing the New Jersey Lottery after they threw out a Powerball ticket worth $1 million.

Salvatore Cambria and Erick Onyango, of Suffern, New York, argue in their federal lawsuit that the lottery didn't quickly update its website with the winning numbers from the March 23 drawing.

Cambria tells The Record (http://bit.ly/1lgeKlD ) newspaper he asked Onyango to check the website soon after the 11 p.m. drawing. Cambria tossed the ticket when the numbers didn't match. The men now think the site was showing the previous drawing's numbers.

If they kept the 2 other tickets, why didn’t they keep that one too?

Does the site also indicate WHICH drawing it presents?

If so, then tough luck guys you should have looked closer!

How can they prove they had the winning ticket when they threw it away?

They might be able to show that they bought tickets at the same time the winner was sold, but that doesn’t mean they are the people who bought it, in which case it’s just an unclaimed prize.

I’d guess they think they have proof they had purchased the ticket that turned out to be a winner.

I’m suspicious of this. The minimum Powerball jackpot is $40 million, not $1 million.

$1 million when you match the 5 white balls w/o red powerball.

“The men say they have two other tickets showing serial numbers that prove they had a winner. “ And I heard they claim missing ticket was the middle serial of the three.

Don’t ever check the lottery numbers right away. They’ll still be the same in the morning.
