Last year, Keith Lockhart found a silver lining when CBS pulled the plug on the national broadcast of the Fourth of July Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular: creative control.

This week, Lockhart is asserting that control with the first-ever Pops-directed webcast of the Independence Day extravaganza. Locally, WBZ will carry the TV broadcast; globally, fans can catch the live stream on bostonpopsjuly4th.org or cbsboston.com.

For years, I enjoyed the A&E 2-3 hour presentation of this great holiday event. Then A&E left and CBS cut it down to an hour fireworks show and then last year even that died. Now, because of that obsteperous storm, Arthur, The Boston Pops is advancing the outdoor program by a day and I feel fortunate that I caught this in time.

AU72:" The Beach Boys are the headliner tonight."
Are you sure ??
If Biden shows up there , it would be the "B*tch Boys" as headliners.
If no BIden , I will watch the show !

I can remember watching Arthur Fiedler and the Pops playing Sousa Marches and everyone going wild.

I tuned in a couple of years ago and did not like most of the music tho they did do one Sousa march. I will say the audience seemed to be enjoying it.

The countdown timer doesn’t match the start time. It should be starting in about an hour?

Keith Lockhart is no Arthur Fiedler.

Dunno about the actual start time, but the feed on YouTube is excellent.

720p is the max resolution, but it looks/sounds great so far.
A bit of pixelation at the very start of the feed, but things have settled down and running smooth.

Tstorms are moving in from the west - currently at the CT River - but weather guy is guessing they'll hold off and/or break up without messin' things up.

I dunno about this. Getting pretty PC.

National Anthem is #3 on the list. Shows where their values are.

And they had 4 people up there from the USS Constitution crew. One looked to be an asian female. Like they would have been in the Constitution's crew and a tradition that needs to be preserved. ;(

Tomorrow during the broadcast of “A Capitol Fourth” on PBS, composer John Williams will unveil a new arrangement of the national anthem.

Just my imagination or is there not much in the way of patriotic music on this show?
