Why We Stuck With Maliki -- And Lost Iraq [Important read!!]

To understand why Iraq is imploding, you must understand Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki — and why the United States has supported him since 2006.

I have known Maliki, or Abu Isra, as he is known to people close to him, for more than a decade. I have traveled across three continents with him. I know his family and his inner circle. When Maliki was an obscure member of parliament, I was among the very few Americans in Baghdad who took his phone calls. In 2006, I helped introduce him to the U.S. ambassador, recommending him as a promising option for prime minister. In 2008, I organized his medevac when he fell ill, and I accompanied him for treatment in London, spending 18 hours a day with him at Wellington Hospital. In 2009, I lobbied skeptical regional royals to support Maliki’s government.

By 2010, however, I was urging the vice president of the United States and the White House senior staff to withdraw their support for Maliki. I had come to realize that if he remained in office, he would create a divisive, despotic and sectarian government that would rip the country apart and devastate American interests.

Obama, Hillary, Biden, et al. have totally pissed away all gains in Iraq.

What we have now is the worst of outcomes, a client state of Iran that will support terrorism more than ever.

Thing was won before Obozo took office.... it was difficult, but it was on the right track more or less.

Now Obama and co. have wasted all those US lives and treasure.

This article pretty much ignores the fact that HILLARY was the Secretary of State during the developing fiasco, and she accomplished nothing but lead us to disaster. If/when she runs for President this needs to be laid at her door, along with Libya, Syria, Egypt, and all of her other disasters.

Val Jarrett (born in Tehran) had Obama give Iraq to Iran. Now the Saudi Sunnis are striking back the old fashioned way - Jihad. That is why Obama is paralyzed and doing nothing.

I don’t think we should waste one more dollar or life on these scumbags — Maliki and friends have clearly cast their lot with the Iranians.

For sure, we should NOT let Iraq have any further access to US arms and especially not to our technologies. We must now operate on the assumption that anything we let into the hands of the Iraqi govt. or military is shared with Iran.

We sure as hell should not let them have F-16s or any missile, guidance, drone, and radar technologies of any sort (it may be too kate..).

may sound strange, but I think that the only path is to ease Russia back in there, especially for arms supplies — because we must not let Iraq/Iran have any more US arms and technologies.

Russia would often act against our interests, of course, but it’s better than giving Iran free reign.... which is what Obozo-Jarrett-Hillary-Biden have done.

I’d sure rather see Iraq/Iran with Russian arms than give/sell them ours.

....and Russia would be at least a partial counter-weight to Iran, more than we can be now that Obama has blown it.

Russia controls Iran, (and via Al Quds, Iraq), and Syria - all Shiite muslim world centers. Russia is a good counterweight to Saudi - the Sunni center and funder of ISIS, Muslim Brotherhood, and Al Queda and of course Obama is Sunni as is H Clintons Aide Ms Abdeen.

But...wasn’t he democratically elected by the people of Iraq? By removing him or supporting his removal, would the U.S. not be engaging in serious hypocrisy against the very ideals it is supposed to be promoting in Iraq?

no, he lost his campaign for re-election and has been maintained in power by fraud, legal corruption, and force of arms. Per the article,
With the Obama administration vowing to end Bush’s “dumb war,” and the continued distraction of the global economic crisis, Maliki seized an opportunity. He began a systematic campaign to destroy the Iraqi state and replace it with his private office and his political party. He sacked professional generals and replaced them with those personally loyal to him. He coerced Iraq’s chief justice to bar some of his rivals from participating in the elections in March 2010. After the results were announced and Maliki lost to a moderate, pro-Western coalition encompassing all of Iraq’s major ethno-sectarian groups, the judge issued a ruling that awarded Maliki the first chance to form a government, ushering in more tensions and violence.

Dude! Quit with the deep analysis nonsense. You are dealing with a culture that thinks it's fine to sell your nine year old daughter to some 60 year old goat humper that lives in a tent in the dessert as long as he provides you with a few goats he has not actually diddled himself. Sharia actually has laws against eating goats you have had sexual intercourse with. Apparently that's what even these barbarians consider "Over the Top".

Obama, Hillary, Biden, et al. have totally pissed away all gains in Iraq.

Completely intentional.

Democrats can't allow anything of lasting military value be accomplished by a Republican president.

Did you know they're changing the name of NYC's Triboro Bridge to the "RFK bridge" ?

Democrats name everything that can be named after themselves.

They're in the process of re-writing the history of the Cold War to keep credit away from Ronald Reagan.

Why is it a bad thing if Sunnis are engaged full-time in destructing the Shi’ites, and the Shi’ites are returning the affection? When both sides are devoting their time, treasure and manpower to this worthy goal (eliminating Muslims from earthly existence), they are much less likely to be spending resources to promote mischief against the West in general and America in particular.

When any kind of assistance is extended to any regime that supports militant Islamic Jihad, or uses it for their gain in influence in the world, then that only works to the disadvantage of the rest of the world that happens NOT to be Muslim. Muslims do not share power once they gain it. They are the ultimate “My way or the highway” people, except then they go out and blow up the highway.
