Ex-Taliban captive Sgt Bergdahl to return to active military duty

Sgt Bowe Bergdahl is set to return to active military duty at the end of his reintegration process following years of captivity in Afghanistan.

The soldier, who was held for five years by the Taliban, will take an administrative job on a Texas base.

-SNIP-

The army is investigating the circumstances of his capture, including whether he intended to desert.

He will take a job "commensurate to his rank" at US Army North at Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston and live in officer quarters there, a base official told the BBC's Rajini Vaidyanathan.

Colleagues in his "duty section" will offer support, the official said.

Sgt Bergdahl has yet to speak publicly regarding his ordeal since his release on 31 May.

-SNIP-

The US military has concluded he walked away from his base without authorization before his capture but has stopped short of accusing him of desertion.

He won’t go home. He won’t go home, even though he has the supporting performances of his adopted-Muslim parents. He won’t go home because his townspeople suspect and know what he did and really is. That’s why he’s in the protective arms of Obama’s anti-military.

This guy has not earned the right to be called Sgt. He deserted his post and then while he was in enemy hands, he received automatic promotions that he didn’t have to compete for. If the Army doesn’t pursue Military Justice against him, it will only be because of White House involvement. I hope the Army will stand up and do the right thing, but unfortunately, Obama is still the Commander in Chief and the Army has the duty to obey his orders.

He knows what he did. His ‘new’ co-workers know what he did, too.

I don’t expect fragging or anything like that. But I don’t suspect he will make any new friends - unless they are of the ‘rainbow’ persuasion.

Army Regulation 630-10. I hereby notify The Inspector General of The United States Army that a standard is being violated in The United States Army concerning Bowe Bergdahl. The United States Army is treating Bowe Bergdahl in a manner that is inconsistent with their treatment of all other United States Soldiers. That standard is found in Army Regulation 630-10. You have been notified of this violation in a public forum and you are required by regulation and oath to investigate it. I request that you respond to me on this forum as is required by regulation and oath.

He’ll come out as gay and everything will be fine.

Target and General Mills will sponsor the cancelled hometown parade.

He’ll jump Ellen’s couch and be on Dancing with the Stars.

After that he’ll run for US Senator for Massachusetts and win after tossing his medals over the White House fence.

Keith Ellison will swear him in on a koran.

Actually, Airman Will Stockdale (Andy Griffith) got that job a few years back in “No Time for Sergeants”

http://www.tcm.com/mediaroom/video/336307/No-Time-For-Sergeants-Movie-Clip-Permanent-Latrine-Orderly.html

Permanent Latrine Orderly is too good for Bergdahl...

One more note: Ralph Peters had some choice words about Bergdahl on FNC last night. He noted that Bergdahl’s MOS is infantry, so why is he at Fort Sam (a medical facility), instead of Fort Hood or Fort Bliss? Peters, a retired Army Lieutenant Colonel, believes if Bergdahl was sent to an infantry unit, he’d wind up back in the hospital, after a beating at the hands of his fellow soldiers. I can’t disagree.

Unfortunately, Bergdahl will (most likely) never be punished for his crimes. The investigation will be a whitewash, and Bergdahl will get an honorable discharge and full back pay. And, it wouldn’t surprise me if he winds up with a medical retirement and some sort of lifetime pension, plus all the other benefits.

Barry’s little Rose Garden reception for his parents ensured that Bergdahl will be treated with kid gloves.
