MORE than 100 AIDS activists, researchers and health workers bound for a major conference in Melbourne were on the Malaysia Airlines flight downed in the Ukraine.
It is believed that delegates to the 20th International AIDS Conference, due to begin on Sunday, will be informed today that 108 of their colleagues and family members died on MH17.
Stunned researchers, activists and development workers arriving at Melbourne Airport paid tribute to AIDS researcher Joep Lange and the other attendees believed killed aboard MH17.

Actually, getting out of the lab, meeting other real humans, talking to presenters at poster sessions, and getting a far-flung team of collaborators all into the same room is the best thing you can do for a project....
If it is legit research on a legit project with non-bogus funding, do it right.

The government knew within 10 minutes of the shoot down who was on the passenger manifest. They could release the numbers immediately like other countries did. It is total BS to report they are withholding the figures until they "notify" the families.
My guess is they are waiting until the news frenzy abates. It's kind of like waiting until Friday at 4 PM before a holiday weekend before releasing critical news that puts them in a bad light. They plan to do nothing, so a total stall is applicable.
Besides, the suspense is helping to cover up their other bad news. When is the last time you heard anything about the invasion on the border or the IRS crimes?
