Flight MH17 and the new world disorder

So for the time being the shaky centre of Europe is holding. Barack Obama and Vladimir Putin are at least talking, while the Ukrainian president Petro Poroshenko continues to show admirable restraint. But listen closely and it is hard not to hear the echoes of history in Europe’s collective failure to confront naked Russian aggression.

For weeks now, the US – supported by Britain, to the irritation of many of our European allies – has been demanding tougher sanctions against Moscow, warning of what might happen if nothing was done to stop Putin giving heavy weapons to separatist rebels in eastern Ukraine. But as so often in the past, a timid and divided European leadership demurred. They agreed to a feeble set of sanctions on Wednesday, only to see their folly exposed for all the world to see a day later: a Malaysia Airlines jet plummeting to earth, caught in the crossfire of a conflict that Europe should have done more to prevent, at a cost of 298 innocent lives.

No one should doubt that the blame for this tragedy lies squarely at the feet of Mr Putin – even as he was promising a “peaceful outcome” to Angela Merkel, a convoy of cast-off tanks and armoured cars was being sent into the rebel strongholds. But Europe’s half-hearted response and the weakness of the West in general also played its part.

Did they honestly think President Bongo was going to stand up to Putin? How idiotic are these people? Netanyahu saw what was what in the first year.

If Europeans wanted to prevent such crisis, they should have paid for their own militaries rather than welfare states. They have invited Putin’s adventurism as much as we have invited the governments of Central America to dump their diseased poor onto us.

I blame Obama, too. Our weakness on the International Stage invited Putin to invade the Crimean peninsula. AND Obama promising more flexibility via Medvedev obviously gave Putin more confidence that he wouldn’t be challenged. Obama has made a mess of the world......I pray that we can get the world on a stable footing again when Obama finally walks away in shame.

I think chaos is the main thing here, and it’s been created by Obama. Putin is not a good guy, but he certainly would not have wanted to shoot down a passenger plane of innocents...however, the fact that the US has simply bailed on its traditional role means that there’s nobody in charge, including Putin.

Obama, with his combination of fecklessness and overt support for the most leftist and Islamist groups in any country, has set fire to the world.

Article’s title makes no sense. Simply can’t be.

The White House assured America just the other day.Obama administration’s foreign policies in a number of areas have enhanced the world’s “tranquility”

Exactly how can the Europeans confront Russia right now ? They have allowed Muslim invaders into their country and rely on Russian energy to get through the winter. Most have given up their nukes and never rebuilt their military after World War II. And there is not a single Churchill-like leader on the continent. What chance do they have ?

A cross appears through the smoke over the devastation in this photo- eerily reminiscent of the 9/11 cross

A ruined telephone pole, actually- but eerie just the same.
