A flurry of legislative activity to address the border crisis is emerging as a major showdown between Tea Partiers and establishment politicians.
Conservatives want to take the fight directly to President Barack Obama, whose executive amnesty policies they say is the primary cause of the problem. Leading the charge on the right are Sens. Jeff Sessions (R-AL), the ranking member of the Senate Budget Committee, and Ted Cruz (R-TX), the wily Tea Party freshman.
The political establishment, on the other hand, prefers a legislated fix to a 2008 anti-human trafficking law, which they cite as a key cause of the problem. The top players on the establishments team are Speaker John Boehner, his working groups head Rep. Kay Granger (R-TX), and Senate Minority Whip John Cornyn (R-TX).
Both sides are pulling deep into their benches to fight this battle, and conservatives are framing it as an epic bout that will show lawmakers' true colorsmuch like the battle to defund Obamacare that Cruz championed last fall.
Already in 2014, 57,000 illegal alien children from Central America currently in U.S. government custody have flooded across the southern border.
Early in the debate over how to respond to the influx, the Obama administration cited the 2008 law as the major impediment to addressing the deluge, conveniently placing the onus on legislation enacted under President George W. Bush.
The Obama administration says the law is partly responsible for tying its hands in dealing with the current influx of children, the New York Times Washington, D.C., editor Carl Hulse wrote in a July 7 piece. Hulse quoted Bush spokesman Tony Fratto as having praised that law, and Obama White House spokesman Josh Earnest calling for changes to it.
The law quickly morphed into the main point of debate surrounding potential fixes to the crisis...

Reagan’s Law: In our current crisis, government is not the solution; government is the problem.
Secure the border for a period of not less than 10 years and then we can talk about “reform”.
Nothing less will do.
Tell Barry we’ll give him a few bucks to buy Huggies and baby wipes for his “unaccompanied” invaders if he’ll give Americans 3.7 Trillion to seal the border.
We still have a two party system...Tea party vs. Dem/Rep party...and the Dem/Rep party is dominating.
There should be no talk of anything, no amnesty, no guest worker programs, no "legislation fixes" - no nothing - until the border is secured.
The average American is desperate for the government to do something to stop this craziness. All they are looking for is a little leadership.
Well, they’ve got Ted Cruz rolling up his sleeves to help ostensibly and hopefully, innocent and needy with that kooky Glenn beck
AND taking it to legislation to close the border
That ought to be something
It’ll drive the dems and the media nuts trying fruitlessly to demonize him
Cruz needs to be careful how he handles Beck.
I’m finished believing in the GOP —I’m not quite a total sucker.
TP 4me 4ever...
Oh yes. He is a live wire and as unpredictable as Rand Paul.
Cruz has good instincts though, so far
Michael McCaul (R-TX) helped push a bad border bill thru his committee. Last Sunday, he mentioned that he wanted the bill to come to the floor for a vote. Beware of any immigration legislation that can be marked up and changed in the conference committee. IMO the orchestrated border crisis was intended to do just that, i.e., force Congress to pass an immigration bill that will act as a Xmas tree for amnesty and increased legal immigration and doubling our guest worker programs.
Jeff Sessions is the one we should be supporting. Whatever he supports, I support.
There is a government solution to the border crisis. The military should be stationed along the border to repel the invasion. National defense is the reason a nation funds a standing army.
Any nation that fails to protect its citizens from invasion across its borders is either militarily impotent or consciously committing suicide.
There’s another new article on here posted bu “seekandfind”, with no way to post a reply to it, on Cruz going down to the border with Beck to help suppply (I think) “food, clothes and toys” to the “children.” This makes me livid - I think Cruz must know better. Beck has gone loony. And “toys” for 17 year old males with mustaches? What “toys” would those be??
He needs to get out there and raise h*ll and do more to help close the border. He needs to do more like jump on spineless Perry for not calling out Texas guards to secure the border.
The federal executive has no authority to alter a state constitution.
The federal executive has no authority over the Texas State Guard.
The federal executive has no authority over the Texas reserve militia.
The federal executive does have authority over the Texas Army National Guard and the Texas Air National Guard only when they are called into actual service of the United States. At all other times the Governor is the Commander in Chief of these forces.
