Hollywood actor James Garner, star of The Rockford Files and The Notebook has died at the age of 86, according to reports.
Garner was found dead when an ambulance arrived at his Los Angeles home around 8pm on Saturday, TMZ reports.

A little trivia. He is the narrator on the Oklahoma Sooner football intro they play as the team comes on the field. Big OU fan who was born in Norman, OK. I remember a game where he was on the OU sideline and Burt Reynolds was on the Florida State sidelines.
I can watch Rockford Files all day.
I used to like his work, but after hearing him off script could not watch him. He was a very stupid man. Rest in peace.

Maverick is a legend of the west.
At age 16, he lied about his age in order to join the Merchant Marine during the last year of World War II. After that, he decided to try living in California with his father, during which time he briefly attended Hollywood High School. But Garner didn’t finish school there, either, abandoning his classes to take a job as a model for Janzen bathing suits. “I made 25 bucks an hour!” he remembered. “That’s why I quit school. I was making more money than the teachers.”
It didn’t last long, though. In 1950, Garner became the first Oklahoman drafted into the United States Army during the Korean War. Two battlefield injuries and Purple Hearts later, Garner returned to the United States. Although he never finished high school, he did earn his GED.

Yes, a very accomplished stunt driver. He made popular what is now called “The Jim Rockford” maneuver. (Back up fast and spin the car around in the other direction)

Always loved the Rockford Files.
Saw a long interview with the man and he seemed like a regular guy who didn’t take himself too seriously. No matter his politics impossible not to respect his contribution to the war effort in WWII and in Korea.
May he rest in peace. One of the great ones, and a true patriot who served in the Korean War.
I watched “36 Hours” last week. Actors include James Garner, Eva Marie Saint, and John Banner (Sgt Schultz on Hogan’s Heroes. Check out this movie if you have not seen it.
In this psychological war-drama an Army Major is captured by the Germans during World War II. They attempt to brainwash him into believing the war is over and that he is safe in an Allied hospital, so that he will divulge Allied D-Day invasion plans.

A real man's man- equally loved by men and women alike. A man who set an example of what it means to be a real man..a man who served his country and stayed married to the same woman for 58 years. A man who's life was untouched by scandal.
My favorites were 'Move Over Darling' (1963) with Doris Day. (a 'remake' of 'Something's Got To Give', the Marilyn Monroe/Dean Martin movie never completed due to her death), and 'Victor/Victoria' (1982) with Julie Andrews- wonderful romantic comedies.

The fact he was a life long dem, is easily offset with the knowing that “in his day” dems were equally patriotic, although wrong on politics, and were not the same as the America hating socialist progressive dems who are for America’s destruction today.

One of my dad’s Korea stories was some of the days he spent in recovery beside Jim Garner after they had both been half blown to hell.
Truthfully, I though he died decades ago.
He had two kneecaps replaced after six or seven surgeries during Rockford, quintuple bypass surgery (which persuaded him to stop smoking 17 years later) in 1988, and a minor stroke in 2008. And finally, two months ago he had severe depression.
Just watched the documentary called “1” about F1 racing. Excellent archival footage from the early days especially.
