Well ... I remember the completely empty skies on 9/11/2001 and several days afterwards, and I was several thousand miles away from New York and Washington DC.

I flew one of the first airliners out on the morning of Sept 13, 2001. It was more than eerie. No other aircraft on the frequency, no contrails. We left the East Coast with no other aircraft moving. We arrived in Denver with no other aircraft moving.
Please tell me how often you have been to Israel? How often have you left the US?

I am an airline pilot. My airline flew into Tel Aviv uninterrupted in the last Gaza war in 2010 - with rockets being launched every day. They have flown into Tel Aviv every day for the past 2 weeks of rockets. They did not stop even when the US State Department issued their travel advisory, and their buddies Hamas actually threatened Ben Gurion International. They only stopped when the US Government stuck their nose into this in a way to hurt Israel and put pressure on her.
My friend was supposed to fly to Israel with 2 grandkids next week, but she has been told she has to wait til Friday to find out when she could reschedule.
Here I was, sitting on the plane soon to land, nervous about going to Israel for the first time. Across the aisle, a friendly young Israeli woman struck up a conversation with me. When she turned her head, I saw that half of her face was scarred from bad burns. I asked her, in as tactful a way as possible, how that had happened. She very nonchalantly told me that she and a girlfriend were standing on a sidewalk in Jerusalem when a bomb went off. Her friend, right next to her, was killed and she was burned.
This story did NOT afford me any relaxation about my first trip to Israel! However, the next 2 weeks were utterly beautiful and enjoyable as I traced my heritage. What a thrill it was to SEE what I'd only read about or prayed about. What a beautiful country. How inspiring it was to see a land that had been uninhabitable waste turned to thriving vineyards, orchards, lovely communities, interesting museums and parks, etc. I would love to go back again as soon as I could, to see more. More than a country, Israel is a living miracle. All the more so with what they have to put up with simply to survive.
Yes, it is truly a living miracle. The beauty of the people and the Land speak straight to the soul. When I am in a Jerusalem, even amid the hustle and bustle, there is a tranquility of the soul that let’s me know that Israel is under the watchful and loving eye of her King, and just being there places me in the apple of His eye.
The FAA ban has been extended for another 24 hours!
