Obama Administration Ignores Reporting Law as Prairie Chicken Population Increases
Colorado Observer ^ | July 22, 2014 | Audrey Hudson

A new study shows the lesser prairie chicken population has exploded by 20 percent prompting concern by western lawmakers that the Obama administration acted hastily when it listed the bird as threatened under the Endangered Species Act.

The aerial survey conducted last month by the Western Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies showed the grouse species numbers jumped from 18,747 to 22,415.

That study plus the Agriculture Department’s tardiness in reporting conservation efforts to Congress as required by law prompted a letter from lawmakers including Colorado Republican Rep. Scott Tipton demanding the report.

“We request that your department provide this report immediately to appropriate committees as required by the law, so that millions of private landowners, states and other stakeholders that are investing significant resources for conservation of this species can ensure that the cost and effectiveness of federal programs are being properly accounted for, and to provide Congress information it requested prior to the listing,” the lawmakers said.

The increase in population numbers prompted lawmakers to question whether the listing by the Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) in March was supported by the best available scientific and commercial data that is required by the Endangered Species Act.

Is there anything about which the Feds or their agents don’t lie (either directly or by omission)? I guess liars lie.

This has been problematic for the oil and gas industry in Oklahoma as well. There’s nothing like seeing a bunch of guys in FRC and hard hats sitting around discussing mating times of a chicken in order to plan a project budget.

Oh my gosh! A Tipton sighting! It's not often he crawls out from under the back bench to add his name to anything. Is he up for election or something?

There is a poll to FReep on the bottom right of the linked article page.

Government is authority. Science is must be indifferent to authority as the scientist must follow the data, not an agency “agenda de jure”.

Agency scientists are intellectual castrati, neutered to sing in their agency choir.

Subordination of scientific integrity is part of the job description of agency scientists.

By allowing agencies to employ scientists, we guaranteed degradation of science and assured an endless stream of flawed “scientific data”.

Agency scientists practice ‘agency science’ which operates on the premise that the data will always confess if you torture it long enough and hard enough.

Here in FloriDUH, when the enviro nutters and FloriDUH AgencyPersons were forced to use valid scientific methods, the “Endangered Florida Manatee” population was discovered to have DOUBLED in one year.

That was a true miracle, as the manatee gestation period is 18 months.

Instead of Holy Mother Gaia, perhaps enviros should be worshiping Holy Mother Manatee?

As a gesture of cross-cultural, multi-cultural, and ecumenical tolerance, I volunteer to accept all tithes from worshipers of Holy Mother Manatee.

Wow. Did they really count each bird.
My favorite endangered species is the red peckered cactus humper.

Often heard but seldom seen.
