Chris McDaniel to announce ‘major development’ on Monday

Mississippi state Sen. Chris McDaniel (R) said Friday that he will announce a "major development" on Monday related to the results of the June 24 GOP runoff election he lost to U.S. Sen. Thad Cochran.

McDaniel said in a news release that he will hold a press conference at his attorney's office Monday afternoon. He did not specify what he will say. But it may be an announcement that he is officially challenging the results of the election, as his legal team has said it expects to do.

Cochran was certified by the Republican Party of Mississippi in July as the winner of the runoff by 7,667 votes. But McDaniel has refused to concede. His campaign has raised the possibility of voter fraud. But so far, it has not come forward with specific evidence.

McDaniel attorney Mitch Tyner told reporters on July 16 that "there is already evidence to file a challenge." He said that "crossover votes" would likely be a big part of the challenge, but did not make specific allegations.

The crossover reference was apparently to Democrats who voted in both the Democratic primary and Republican runoff.

I hope he’ll run as an independent and give the Mississippi RINOs a fight. Then when he wins, tell Mitch to STFU.

Miss law explicitly prohibits Chris from running as an independent..

I wonder if he will concede and endorse the democrat (who is actually more conservative and less sleazy).

He won’t win as an indie, but he’ll sure knock Cochran on his ass.

I see what is coming. McDaniel will win in court, Cochran will stay in as a write in and the rat will win.

I read somewhere, twitter I think...that there may be ‘confusion’ as to what the MS law actually means. Something to the effect that voters could not vote for a R or a D in the same election. But since this was a runoff...is that technically the same election?

Don’t know what the out come will be if McDaniel continues to push forward. Isn’t the clock ticking awfully fast toward the general election? Can McDaniel raise enough money at this point to run and effective campaign against the Democrat?

No...I’m not a Thad fan...just wondering about the logistics at this point.

The rat wouldn’t win. Cochran will lose, the Democrat or McDaniel would win.

If Cochran was a decent person, he would call a press conference to withdraw his nomination and endorse McDaniel. Unfortunately, leftist/selfish candidates don’t do what is good for the country and their representatives.

Cochran was already set to retire before the establishment convinced him to run again, it would be honorable for him to come forward and say that he found out about the effort to get Democrats to vote for him and he could claim that he had nothing to do with it. In light of new information, he is stepping aside. (in my dreams)

According to a reference at http://ballotpedia.org/Mississippi_elections,_2014 - " Voters do not have to register with a party, but they must intend to support the party nominations if they vote in the primary election."

I consider a runoff as another primary with fewer choices on the ballot, so if you had previously voted in the Democratic primary you cannot subsequently vote in the Republican runoff. However, I am not a judge in Mississippi so you can't take my word for it. /s

Yes, he needs to remind Kansas and Tennessee voters about Mississippi, but he also needs to put up, or shut up. It’s time.

And if it looks like more money will open some doors toward turning this travesty of betrayal around, I'll gladly hit his donate button.

I will not vote for Cochran or Childers, I do not believe Childers is any less sleazy nor do I believe either one of them is Conservative.

I understand that there is time if a court rules in Senator McDaniel’s favor for a September runoff. I don’t know about money, I believe we would find out if the Republican Party and the NRSC are serious about holding the Mississippi Senate seat and taking control of the Senate.

I hope not. The Senate doesn't operate on conservative v. liberal or honest v. sleazy. It's strictly R's v. D's.

So it doesn't matter the kind of Democrat. They will always carry the Reids, Feinsteins, Durbans, Boxers,... right along with them.
