Maine Governor to "Boycott NFL" Following Weak Punishment of Ray Rice
Town Hall ^ | Christine Rousselle

Maine Gov. Paul LePage is not thrilled with the way the NFL has handled the suspension of Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice, and said today on a radio show that he intends on boycotting the NFL and will be sending NFL Commissioner Roger Gooddell a letter criticizing the relatively light punishment Rice received for beating his fiancé unconscious.

"They care so little about our women and our children that they’re going to hire these barbarians who go and hit their wives and their kids and they’re gonna get a slap on the hand? And some guy got a year for smoking pot?"

I don’t think Le Page has much authority over the NFL, but I give him credit for speaking out.

Are sports organizations now supposed to administer judicial punishments? I can understand them being concerned with image, but you don’t do your image any good by retaining such a player, even if you’ve punished him.

Selective outrage. Showboating. Where is his outrage that millions are pouring across our border many of whom are hardened gang members. Many of whom may be terrorists? Many of whom molest children. Where is the outrage? Democrats are nothing but phonies.

What are we supposed to allow? Fourteen different levels of punishment, from your local neighborhood group, the local charity foundations, the city council, etc?

Either the court decides on something, or everyone else should just shut up. If I were the judge....I’d probably order Rice to miss the entire season, while doing time at home rather than the local jail (waste of money). Missing a season would likely start to really get the interest of players and their need to make capital.

I suppose if Rice were training animals to fight each other instead of beating a person into unconsciousness he would have
been considered a pariah even by the NFL.

Ray Rice should have beat down a stupid American Communist from Maine instead.

FYI -

Le Page is a Republican, and democrats hate hate hate him. They think he’s stupid and crass.

In my limited experience of him, he’s a regular plain spoken guy.

What I don’t understand is why he is doing this. Either he’s showboating, i.e. looking for power in whatever he’s considering after the governership. Or, morel likely, h’e just pissed at the NFL - said so, and it made the papers.

More often, he’s out their saying that welfare recipients should be doing some kind of work in exchange for benefits. He’s always pissing off the democrats because he’s not polished politically. He states very obvious truths, without polish, and so of course the dems attack him as stupid, rather than face him on the issue itself.

My point: I suspect he’s just pissed that a wife beater’s NFL punishment virtually condone’s the behavior, and it made the papers. I’d be surprised if this is a thought-through political move, deserving of any deep commentary whatsoever - because I doubt there’s any deep thought behind the statement. Lizzy Warren might run this through 10 polling agencies. No so, LePage. That’s just my take. Who knows, maybe he’s turned to the dark side.

LePage, who ran away from home at age 11 following abuse from his father, has made domestic violence awareness and prevention a priority during his administration.

Talk-radio host Howie Carr agreed with a caller yesterday that political donations should be made first to LePage before sending donations to distant political races.

He joked on Howie Carr that the NAACP wanted him to talk to prisoners. But only talk to black prisoners, which means he wouldnt be able to say hello to all his relatives in prison.

I think LePage has a better shot of winning than Howie’s VIP client Scott Brown. Howie protects Brown from tough questions.

“I have always said Maine’s safety net should help our most needy citizens. These vulnerable Mainers include the elderly, children, disabled and mentally ill.

Hello. This is Governor Paul LePage.

Illegal aliens who choose to live in Maine are not our most vulnerable citizens. We need to take care of Mainers first. I think most Mainers would agree.”
