~The FReeper Canteen Presents~

Road Trip: Fort Bragg, North Carolina

Fort Bragg is a major United States Army installation located in Cumberland, Hoke, Harnett and Moore counties, North Carolina, mostly in Fayetteville but also partly in the town of Spring Lake.

The fort is named for Confederate general Braxton Bragg. It covers over 251 square miles. It is the home of the US Army airborne forces and Special Forces, as well as U.S. Army Forces Command and U.S. Army Reserve Command.

Fort Bragg, NC absorbed FORSCOM (Forces Command) and USARC (US Army Reserve Command) from Fort McPherson, GA in 2011 as an outcome of the 2005 BRAC (Base Realignment and Closure Commission).

Fort Bragg retained its name and increased its population by 25,000. The consolidation made Fort Bragg the largest US Army command for sustained forces capable of worldwide crisis response.

There are 29,183 people, 4,315 households, and 4,215 families residing on the base. The base is the one of the main garrisons for deployments to IRAQ & Afghanistan wars. The units based at the mission have conducted two, three, or even four or more deployments to combat zones in IRAQ & Afghanistan.

Fort Bragg is tasked to maintain America’s Contingency Corps as a strategic crisis response force manned and trained to deploy rapidly by air, sea, and land anywhere in the world with the ability to fight upon arrival. The major units are XVIII Airborne Corps, 82nd Airborne Division, The Golden Knights, FORSCOM and USARC.

Tenant organizations at Fort Bragg include MEDDAC (Medical Command), Womack Army Medical Center, Special Forces, and John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School.

Good morning, y’all

Geez, you guyz had a great discussion yesterday and I missed it. Now I’m going to have to go through the thread and catch up. My husband is a big “war” buff and in particular, the Civil one, so I try to stay aware.

Good morning, Everyone.

Good morning to our

Military, our Allies, and their families.

Thank you, Lauren, for preparing the
Canteen for today’s activities.
A visit to a place within driving distance.
I'm taking the limo.
Anyone on the right coast want to hitch a ride?

The really good news is that I am finally back in my office! I feel whole again. hehe
I'm an organized person and it wasn't easy feeling so disorganized.

Going to make my rounds while it's quiet.
And want to get back to that conversation between yarddog, publius, and pelham.
I might be able to impress Mr. Beachy in our next discussion. hehe

Please stay.

Grab a cup of joe or tasty tea.

The FR Canteen is

Come on in and sit for a while.
There's always plenty of coffee, tea,
pancakes,
conversation,
silliness,
and plain old BS

REMEMBER THEM ~ DEFENDERS OF FREEDOM

FR CANTEEN MISSION STATEMENT

Showing support and boosting the morale of our military and our allied military and the family members of the above Honoring those who have served before.

Sorry about the dogs.
Hope someone checked to see what they were barking at.
They do bark for a reason.
Gotta work today?

My husband is a graduate of the Bragg School for Wayward Boys.

Always cracked me up that it is named for one of the most disagreeable and incompetent Confederate generals. NOBODY liked Bragg, and I think most people wished Forrest had gotten mad enough at him to challenge him to a duel (getting in a duel with Forrest was pretty much a death warrant).

If Bragg had not been as jealous of Forrest as some beauty-pageant contestant, the outcome in the Army of Tennessee might have been very different.

Sounds like you’re falling back into the swing of things rather easily.

Can I snag the cat photo?
