According to a new Sunday Times report by Toby Harden, "Pentagon sources said Foley and the others might well have been rescued but Obama, concerned about the ramifications of US troops being killed or captured in Syria, took too long to authorise the mission."

Doesn't releasing info that there was one mission that didn't work (because the intel was stale and the hostages had been moved) create the same effect? What were they thinking when they discussed that mission after Foley's death? That they looked more caring for having tried and failed?

Any such perception was far outweighed by the photographs, separated by 8 minutes, of Obama giving his speech and then making it to the golf course on time. Tee time is the only appointment the SOB is ever prompt for.
