Singapore is an island. As aggressive as PRC has been of late, they have every right to be concerned.

Singapore isn't the least bit worried about China - after all, they have imported more than a million PRC immigrants over the last few years to keep their society as Chinese as possible. It's the Muslim (and potentially future Islamist) governments of Malaysia and Indonesia that worry them and thus - like South Korea - in recent years they have made a pivot toward China and away from the inept and feckless Obama-led USA, which they know they can no longer trust in the event of a real crisis.

Ethnic Chinese are one thing. The PRC taking over the country is another.
