mike huckabee to conservatives: 'stop the fight' over common core

On Friday Fox News host and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee (R) called on conservatives to “stop the fight” over the Common Core standards and, instead, consider the positive effects the nationalized standards might have on students in poor-performing schools.

As ABC News reports, Huckabee, considered to be a 2016 presidential hopeful, was addressing the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference (NHCLC) in Washington, a group that includes over 40,000 churches and 16 million evangelical Hispanics.

In February, the NHCLC announced its endorsement of the Common Core standards and its plans to launch a nationwide campaign to salvage the increasingly unpopular initiative. On September 7, the group’s pastors plan to pitch the controversial standards initiative to their congregations during their sermons.

“I don’t support what Common Core has become in many states or school districts,” Huckabee told his Fox News audience last December. “Look, I’m dead set against the federal government creating a uniform curriculum for any subject. I oppose the collection of personal data on students that would identify them and then track them, and certainly any effort to give that personal information to the federal government.”

Just one month earlier, however, Huckabee urged the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO), one of the creators and owners of the Common Core standards, to get rid of the “Common Core” name because it had become “toxic.”

“Rebrand it, refocus it, but don’t retreat,” Huckabee told the CCSSO.

By calling on conservatives to “stop the fight” against standards for which support across the country is plummeting, Huckabee is casting himself squarely as an establishment candidate, against potential GOP candidates who know that the Common Core initiative will lead to greater federal control of education and less control by state legislatures and local school districts and parents.

Huckabee: If it helps the bottom 5% of the school kids, it’s not important how much damage you do to the other 95%!

He was such a great Conservative at one point in his life that he was the toast of FR. Those days, sadly, are long gone.

He’s telling us to give up the fight while we’re winning.
That’s the GOPe in a nutshell.

Yep. It’s because THEY are not winning. They are the other side of the liberal coin. The R’s and D’s are playing “good cop, bad cop” with us. Their common enemy is conservative Americans and small business. We are not controllable.

My interest in educating my kids and choosing how does NOT necessarily coincide with politicians’ interests in educating kids in general and choosing how. The latter need a “lowest common denominator” standard geared toward compliant graduates sharing political persuasions, while the former needs the very best individually-tailored out-of-the-box independence & leadership training my money can buy.

The common core is more about data mining information than about educating children.

Just stop fighting the inevitable.

Let the progressives brainwash your kids with their filth, hate and anti-Americanism.

Then we will all just get along so much better.

Tells us everything we need to know about this fool.

Anyone noticed lately that a lot of Republicans are pushing stuff that they know the majority of us do not want? Amnesty, common core, “climate change”.

The party clearly wants to tell us what to believe rather than run/govern according to our wishes. More proof the GOP is an institution that has outlived its purpose.

Too bad it’s not like a corporation we could dissolve and start over from scratch.
