I used to watch the A-10s from Willowgrove target practice at Warren Grove in the Jersey pines. Back then there were F-4s and 1-11s too.

I used to camp quite bit at Lebanon State Forest.

It took me awhile to figure out what that zipper sound was.

Daddy always described the sound as like a piece of cloth being torn. Of course he was speaking of an MG-42 instead of a Vulcan.

My parents from the time I was around age 11 lived in the country but within sight of planes from Eglin AFB both bombing and strafing. I could see them dive but they would disappear. Later I would hear either a bomb, in which case I could also feel it, or a short fairly deep roar. I really can’t describe the Vulcan sound exactly.

They are “officially” out of Barnes, across the river in Westfield MA. But they have been rehabbing the runway so I don’t know if they are back there yet.

I love seeing them fly over the house every once in a while. You get used to the C5s...big, lumbering, giant aircraft. So when you hear and see an F15....it’s like seeing a race car.

He was taking the jet to get his radar system upgraded.

It was just a routine flight.

The F-15E has a two man crew.

D, I, K/Slam Eagle & Silent Eagle/stealth as well (though I/K/SE are export only).

Last I heard the Silent Eagle/faux-stealth variant's only customer was South Korea, having chosen it over the F35. Haven't followed it much since...

Right you are. I missed the D but didn't even think about the export variants.

When I first saw the C model canopy and cockpit I saw there was room for a second station. I wondered if that was by design or a coincidence of the canopy design.

Because I was in Lebanon State Forest NJ, I only heard the zipper sounds. It wasn't until I saw a Warthog through a break in the trees, did I figure out what the sound meant.

I was never military, but if I went Air Force and passed pilot training., I would have picked the A10 over the fast movers.
