Wait, is his argument really that getting rid of bad teachers means getting rid of Black teachers?

O.K. so who is the racist here?

It’s ironic that black workers depend so much on unions considering the racial bias most unions practiced at one time. Even today there are some local union chapters and some small craft guilds that attempt to shun blacks.

It may be that a Statistics course is not required for a doctorate in “Urban Education” though I imagine fluency in Eubonics is essential.

Thank you for adding that explanation.

The truth is that an attack on bad teacher tenure laws (and ineffective teachers in general) is actually an attack on black professionals.

Anyone care to parse this? Does it need parsing?

This author works at Davenport University in Michigan. Then by calculating using your information, "teacher flight" from the union (as noted in article below) would strengthen the notion that blacks (who remain union) would be even more adversely affected - their protected status harmed. blacks (13.6 percent) represent the highest percentage of union members among the total number of workers (whites are 11 percent; Asians are 9.4 percent; and Hispanics are 9.4 percent),... According to my math, that doesn’t equal 100%. What’s missing?"

I would venture that means that out of the total number (100%) of workers, 43.4% are union.

“Labor experts say Michigan unions will have to find other ways to demonstrate their value even though they still have collective bargaining power. In neighboring Wisconsin, more than one-third of teachers dropped their union membership after a 2011 law effectively ended collective bargaining for most public employees. But in right-to-work Alabama, nearly 80 percent of teachers voluntarily belong to the union and pay dues, said Adler.”

Pretty much so. The left loves disparate impact.

“among the total number of workers”

I see that now; they normally only call union members “workers” (unless it is to their advantage not to).

Many, many “educators” are an embarrassment to their selves and to their “profession”. Tenure is one of the more often misused rules. Incompetence is often protected.
