(Reuters) - A group of people caught up in unrest in Ferguson, Missouri, after a white officer killed a black teenager, sued local officials on Thursday, alleging civil rights violations through arrests and police assaults with rubber bullets and tear gas.
The suit, filed in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri, says law enforcement met a broad public outcry over the Aug. 9 killing of 18-year-old Michael Brown with "militaristic displays of force and weaponry," (and) engaged U.S. citizens "as if they were war combatants."
The lawsuit seeks a total of $40 million on behalf of six plaintiffs, including a 17-year-old boy who was with his mother in a fast-food restaurant when they were arrested. Each of the plaintiffs was caught up in interactions with police over a period from Aug. 11 to 13, the suit allege.

If Ferguson pays out like that, then they won’t have garbage collection, police or fire services, public works, etc, for centuries.
This money doesn’t come from a bottomless wallet.

IF THEY WIN, the state should bring out the money in CASH, on a SATURDAY EVENING when the banks are closed, with full television coverage. Show the money, show the houses where the recipients live, keep mentioning how much cash the settlement was.
Then leave, and withdraw ALL POLICE PROTECTION for a five mile radius and let tribal culture take it’s course.
Unless they have a documented pattern of misbehavior, they are probably insured against such actions (through the city).
This nonsense guarantees that blacks will have 0 police protection from this point forward; cops want to return to their families at the end of their shifts, and they aren;t going to risk that for political correctness.

These incidents do a good job of furthering segregation; here in NJ it is probably less integrated than much of the Deep South. The hate-mongers don’t understand that white parents can instill hate in their children just as well as blck parents can; they apparently believe we’ve been cowed into “white guilt” because a some white political quislings have done so.
My children are growing up with white, Hispanic, and Asian friends (there are no blacks in the immediate area), and I was surprised how the foreign kids seemed to know every racist joke I heard thirty years ago. Their parents will move mountains to protect their children from our unassimilated permanent urban underclass...
Ferguson is done as a police department. I see St. Louis County as picking up that contract for service.
There must be more lawyers in Ferguson than cops.

Maybe that’s a good idea; here in NJ each of our towns is a little kingdom crushed by the costs of separate administrations for everything, and any sharing or consolidation of services is fiercely resisted by each kingdom (including fire departments originally designed for the massive manufacturing complexes that have long since left).
The state government put pressure on municipalities of less than five or ten thousand people to merge/consolidate, but they really have to go further; paying so many police chiefs and school superintendents is killing us. Our public sector is a huge parasite here...
The burned/looted out business owners need to file a class action lawsuit against Poverty Pimping Race Baiters who for example as heads of organizations stand too profit substantially either in fame, money, or power, from continued civil unrest.
The Street Rats are damn lucky they didn't get what they deserved, was full force attack by the cops. Switching from rubber bullets to the real deal might have made some difference had there been hundreds of them laying in the streets
