FWIW, I've never treated a woman this way in my life, and if the accounts are true, which I've no reason to believe they aren't, I find it pretty appalling.

I suspect there's a wide range of behavior being lumped in here as catcalling. On the mild end it's possibly harmless and even fun. On the extreme end described, it sounds like criminal assault and menacing.

I’m sorry, fellas, but the feminists have it right this time: Catcalling needs to end and the conservatives need to stop defending it.

What would a feminist know about catcalling?

Ugly hags WISH they were catcalled.

“One day, as my female schoolmate and I rode New York City’s F train home...”

Move away from New York. I don’t think I’ve ever seen someone getting ‘catcalls’ while in Arizona, Utah or Idaho.

Must happen when other guys are not around. I’ve not seen such behavior before (except for by certain demographics known for harrassing everyone).

I don't see 'catcalling' in VA, WV, OH, CO, NV (not even in Lost Vegas), NC, PA (Can't speak for philthadelphia), MD, WY, MT, ...

Hmmm ...

Maybe the problem is living in an urban cesspool.

No, Catcalling Is Definitely Not Flattery

Flattery? I thought catcalling (other than "here, kitty, kitty, kitty!) meant booing, Bronx-cheering, etc. to express disapproval.

Maybe I'm just old school.

The author of the piece saying she liked having men catcall was NOT a conservative - she might be a nut, but she isn't a conservative. I'm not surprised the ladies on Outnumbered supported her side because they aren't as easily upset at every whim like feminists are, however I think that type of behavior is ridiculous and really shouldn't be acceptable in 2014. Since a business can be sued for the smallest of incidences, I'm kind of surprised no one has sued for harassment by male employees on construction sites. It will happen, and then management will crack down and end the practice.

In Manhattan it is a regular occurrence. Also, I hate to be the one who notices this but eight times out of ten (at least) its a black guy doing it . . .

It’s one thing to take in an eye full, and maybe have a little longer look if she’s particularly attractive. And it’s another thing altogether to actually say something impolite.

And therein is the the issue, the boundaries of impolite.

I appreciate the idea that a woman should be able to wear whatever she wants, but at some point the provocative clothing, provokes. Otherwise, what’s the point?

Case in point ...Yoga pants. Why would you wear them, except to show off your wares.

There is a certain line of behavior for some men who seem to wish to be as disgusting as possible.

Girls.... you’re going to have to deal with it. Men are hound dogs, always have been. Always will be.

It’s to show off to guys they like, not to ones they find ugly!

“Girls.... you’re going to have to deal with it. Men are hound dogs, always have been. Always will be.”

I don’t buy that. My impulses are just as strong as the next guy but I have no need to act on them in public or subject some woman, who might be my sister or wife, etc. to such urges. I don’t care how she’s dressed either, I don’t know her story. And besides that it’s disrespectful to my significant other who I’m sure wouldn’t expect me to behave in such a way. . .

The behavior described is beyond disgusting and crosses into assault.

Depending on the age of the lady (not obviously underage/teen) a whistle or maybe a non threatening remark (i.e., “where have you been all my life”) is alright. Vulgarity and predatory behavior isn’t.
