Road Trip: Pope Field, North Carolina

Pope Field is a U.S. military facility located 12 miles northwest of the central business district of Fayetteville, in Cumberland County, North Carolina, United States. Formerly known as Pope Air Force Base, the facility continues to be used by the United States Air Force but is now operated by the U.S. Army as part of Fort Bragg.

The United States Army Fort Bragg Garrison is the host organization at Pope Field. The garrison provides airfield support, security, and protection to include emergency medical and fire response, aircraft security and transient alert support.

It also provides installation support and is responsible to execute the Inter Service Support Agreement in providing support to the Air Force tenants to include services, facility maintenance, and morale, welfare and recreation support.

The United States Air Force 43d Airlift Group was activated at Pope on March 1, 2011. The unit performs en route operations support to include mission command & control, aircrew management, aircraft maintenance, aircraft loading, aircraft fueling and supply.

In addition, the USAF 18th Air Support Operations Group, 427th Special Operations Squadron, 21st Special Tactics Squadron, 24th Special Tactics Squadron, and Air Force Combat Control School operate from Pope Field.

The USAF 440th Airlift Wing is a United States Air Force Reserve unit performs airfield operations to include airfield management, weather forecasting, airfield tower control, airfield navigation and landing systems’ maintenance.

The 440th AW is the first Air Force Reserve Wing to have an active duty associate squadron, the 2d Airlift Squadron, which is assigned to the 43d, and shares the airlift mission with the 440th's 95th Airlift Squadron. The association has 16 C-130's. The 43d also has an Air Evacuation Squadron assigned, the 43d AES, which shares the AE mission with the 440th's 36th Air Evacuation Squadron.

Prayers for Tiffany and Robert and that the baby may be delivered safely.

Status Update: At 24 weeks gestation my daughter-in-law, Tiffany, experienced a medical emergency related to her pregnancy.

Tiffany's condition is considered critical. She had passed a large blood clot approximately two weeks ago. Yesterday her water partially broke, which led to her hospitalization. Doctors found a second large blood clot in the Placenta. She has been placed on IV medications to prevent her from going into labor. She is being kept in the hospital for the duration of this pregnancy. Please update the prayer warriors, and request prayers for Tiffany, Robert, their three sons, and the baby (Emma Liliana Rose).

I’ve had some difficult situations the past few weeks. I finally got a diagnosis from my doctors - it turned out I have ALS - Lou Gerhigs (sp)disease. It is a disease that affects bodily muscle functions. I’m at the early stages but it is a fast progressive disease.

I would appreciate prayers to Our Lord Jesus Christ for healing.

CURRENT UPDATE: Tiffany and Emma The doctors at Shands/UF Hospital have moved Tiffany to a different room so that she is closer to the examination room. She is being examined two times daily. Baby Emma has a strong heartbeat (140's). Currently there are no plans to deliver Baby Emma by C-Section. However, Tiffany's chronic bleeding, if it worsens, may change this. The real concern is the possibility of the placenta fully detaching (apparently there is a partial detachment), known as a Placental Abruption. With this, there is a danger to both the mother and the baby. Tiffany loses fluid and blood whenever Emma moves around too much. If a full detachment occurs they will have to take Baby Emma by C-Section.

Doctors are hoping for the best, and that they can keep Baby Emma inutero until at least 32-34 weeks gestation. Doctors stated that, "everything changes every 12 to 24 hours. Tiffany is not allowed to leave the hospital until Emma is born. Bob (her husband), their three boys, and Tiffany's dad were in to visit, and got to hear Emma's heartbeat. At which time Gabe (the youngest of the twins) said tjat he was Tiffany's doctor.

Please ping the prayer warriors. The danger to Tiffany and Baby Emma is significant.

I just received a newer update. Doctors have moved Tiffany back into Labor/Delivery due to her bleeding. She’s been placed back on the 24/7 monitors to watch Emma’s heart rate and contraction levels. Tiffany is back on the IV. Baby Emma, according to doctors, will be premature. At this time they do not know how soon they will need to take Baby Emma from the womb. They told Tiffany that so far she and Baby Emma are doing great, but the concern is there.
