Ted Cruz wants to make the 2014 election a referendum on ‘amnesty’
Washington Post ^ | September 2 at 10:48 AM | Chris Cillizza

In a fiery speech over the weekend to an Americans for Prosperity gathering in Texas, Ted Cruz made one thing absolutely clear: He'd love to have the 2014 midterms be decided on the issue of immigration.

"President Obama has made a decision to make this election in 2014 a national referendum on amnesty," Cruz said in reference to an expected executive order on immigration from the White House. "If you support amnesty, vote Democrat. If you oppose amnesty, throw Harry Reid out."

Cruz went on:

And every Democrat in the Senate who stood with Harry Reid blocking legislation to stop the amnesty, every Democrat in the Senate bears responsibility for that amnesty. So for the folks here from Arkansas, Louisiana, North Carolina, Colorado, New Mexico, Alaska--there are some Democratic senators we need to introduce to the private sector. There are some Democratic senators who bear the responsibility for President Obama's amnesty and there are some Democratic senators who sorely need to lose their exemption from Obamacare.

(You can watch Cruz's full speech here.)

Cruz allies cast the speech as an example of his willingness to draw bright lines between Republicans and Democrats, a willingness that, they believe, has been lacking among Republican leaders.

Cruz's strong words on the electoral impact of an Obama move on immigration -- a decision that is causing considerable uncertainty in the minds of strategists of both parties -- are part of a broader difference  he has with many of the politicians in his own party, including many of those he may run against for president in 2016.

I would put the emphasis on sealing the border. Vast majorities want this, democrats fight it and amnesty is just too messy.

What a sensible, concise plank to stand on, made by Ted Cruz. Easily understood by all, even if it’s against their will, it’s a stand alone winner in all of the polling across the spectrum.

It’s very hard for Marxists to defeat a concept of such unambiguous simplicity as expoused by Cruz, who has already proven that his words mean something. He suffered for it, but he stood on principle, filibustered, lost, but in defeat became larger for trying.

Go for it Ted. You have the base, now go get the boobs out there, bring ‘em to Jesus and let’s win in ‘16. Undoubtedly, you can not win with only the base.

Well, if that’s the case, do NOT vote GOPE. They are the biggest danger.

This is a very smart move. This issue is a near 70% issue across the board. There are even dems that are anti amnesty/illegal immigration. I have a co-worker that’s a commie lesbian. She collected signatures to get a ballot measure in Oregon to not allow illegals to get drivers licenses.

This could even scrape off one half of one percent of the African American vote.

Just for analogy: if there are two football teams meeting for a game; half the spectators are rooting for the team who plays dirty, and does so very well; the other half of spectators are as weak and unaware of the rules and how to face these bullies as their team is; and one guy from the rule-observing team goes on the field to play; two or three guys on his team help him out a little and go on the field for a play or two; and 90% of his own spectators boo him, and continue to do so for a full on and off season, after he walks off the field with his head high, as he played by the rules-

Did he lose?

It's time for Ted Cruz to be clear about what he would do with the 12mil or so illegals that are here now.

He says "no amnesty". Fine.

Legal status, or not? Will he deport those whom LEO encounters? Will he cut them off from all benefits via legislation he will sponsor and advocate?

Yes, or no?

Aside from voting in McDaniel in Mississippi, who do you suggest?

This is the “national question” everything else is secondary. We are being replaced by a new people. Let what’s left of the American people have a say on this finally. Smart move by Cruz...who I back 100%.

Agreed, dear friend.

We lose battles all day long, but in the end, and after battles well fought, we are charged to absolutely win our own war, and try to win it well.

Our Lord never said we would avoid the Via De La Rosa in this life. “To thine own self be true.”

It's a winning issue for us. Americans are sick of open borders and the lies about ‘multiculturalism’...

I thought his wife was an elitist, corrupt, dishonest, swindling grifter, lobbyist and rent-seeker. Why do you care?
