Kobach: Democrat Chad Taylor’s name will remain on ballot for U.S. Senate.

Democrat Chad Taylor must stay on the ballot for U.S. Senate in Kansas, Secretary of State Kris Kobach said Thursday afternoon.

Kobach said Taylor submitted a letter Wednesday to withdraw from the race but did not declare he was incapable of serving, which is also required.

The Kansas Republican Party had questioned whether Taylor, the Shawnee County district attorney, could withdraw.

Kansas law means “we now have no choice” but to put Taylor’s name on the ballot, Kobach told reporters at an afternoon news conference. “The law is the law.”

From Wikipedia:

The most common, and arguably the most important, function held by secretaries of state is to serve as the state's chief elections official (although many states also have supervisors of elections, which are usually county elected officials). In 38 states, ultimate responsibility for the conduct of elections, including the enforcement of qualifying rules, oversight of finance regulation and establishment of Election Day procedures falls on the secretary of state.

Well, well, well! Seems ole Joannie doesn't know what she's talkin' about!

Kobach has proven time and time again he is not afraid of the Democrats. I hope someday he seeks higher office.

That’s the key. Establish in the minds of the voters that Orman is a liberal Dem.

This could be an interesting scenario: Judge orders Kocbach to remove Taylor’s name. Kobach says that he will as soon as the Democrats provide him with a replacement name as required by law. I’d love to hear the Democrat legal arguments that they don’t want a Democrat candidate for Senate and that the people of Kansas have no right to have one even though they voted for a candidate in large numbers.

I love it when the rats outsmart themselves.

I would like it a lot better if the Republicans would occasionally outsmart them.

They have only until today, ballots have to be printed by tonight, no changes after that.

No one can outmaneuver my friend Kris Kobach. This man is a great patriot worthy of our founders. If every American knew him as I do, they would urge him to run for president.

But she sharply criticized Kobach, a Republican, for injecting himself into the ballot dispute. “He is partisan, and mean

What is she, 8 years old? He's 'mean'? Did he take her Bratz doll away? He is the Secretary of State you dolt. This IS his job. Funny how the RATs had no problem with the MN sec of state certifying Al Franken's fraudulent election.

Thanks, I did not know that. I’m sure there’s a judge out there who will play along with the Dems, but he/she may never have gone up against Kris Kobach.

If the ballots go out and a judge Kobach, I think the ballots are deemed invalid. I was listening to Kobach on my way to work today and he mentioned that that could create a lot of problems for those voting absentee, esp. our service folks.

Keep out of this one - good grief. He’s the Secretary of State - it’s part of his freaking job. Joan Wagnon is a moron.

Take a deep breath and repost what you were trying to say. This makes no sense. Thanks.

You’re probably right. KS people never seem to get too much right, but they are still better than many sister states.

We’ll see if the Dems get a judge to overrule Kobach. They can always find one to disregard rules.

It will be tough to rule on why having Taylor's name on the ballot is a problem. If a judge were to rule that way he/she would be as much as saying the ruling is political.

Dems have outwitted themselves, stuck with a dead duck candidate's name now on the ballot....hilarious backfire on their game.

I doubt it's much of a backfire. Taylor is on the ballot but all he has to do is do nothing. No ads. No fundraising. No appearances. Refuse to debate. He won't attract many votes.

But by leaving Taylor on the ballot then Orman can still argue he's the independent in a three man race. Had Taylor been dropped then Roberts could have labeled him as the defacto Democrat. Now he'll continue to try and do that but it won't be as effective.

The extreme gyrations and contortions the Democrats are performing in their effort to get Taylor off the ballot would indicate otherwise.
