Worcester (MA) school bus video shows 'terrifying' confrontation between parents, driver

It's unclear what happened before the video started, but what happened afterward one parent could only describe as "terrifying."

Video shot by a parent of a Quinsigamond Elementary School student Wednesday afternoon of what should have been a routine school bus stop showed young children crying and screaming, seemingly unable to leave the school bus they were riding in as parents shouted at the driver to let them off.

In the video, shot near the corner of Perry Ave. and Harlem Street by parent Jessica Jimenez, parents curse and shout at the driver asking why she won't let the kids off while children complain that they're unable to leave. The bus door is seen shut with some kids standing near a couple of the open windows.

...

A statement from the school department also paints a different picture of the incident.

"The driver was attempting to ensure that kindergarten students were matched with the proper parent before releasing them from the school bus," the statement reads. Parents became impatient and insisted that the driver release all the students immediately. When the driver refused, one or more parents started to enter the school bus. The driver informed them that adults are not allowed on the school bus with students on board. They refused to leave and the driver was instructed by the Durham supervisor to close the entrance door. Parents broke the door and entered the school bus."

The statement goes on to state that "the school bus driver was also physically assaulted, struck at least two times in the face."

Last year in Springfield MA I watched a parent use most every swear under the sun at a cop, who had ticked them double parking, in a no parking zone to begin with outside a elementary school. They than told the kid “no dinner tonight because of aF#$%ing pig.” They were driving a Audi.

I was just making sure that people are aware of unwanted adults wanting access to schoolchildren on a bus every once in awhile. That’s all.

I wouldn’t want to have that job of a school bus driver.

No, neither would I.

However, in the case in Australia, you’d think “Don’t let drunk terrorist guys on the bus” would be so obvious it wouldn’t have to be in the driver’s s.o.p.

You’re too funny! Best laugh I’ve had in a while.

It’s even worse than you think. I substitute teach, too.

I know a driver who fell out the back door during an emergency drill. Broke her ankle.

I was behind what appeared to be a noobie school bus driver, yesterday. Our rural road is a skinny one lane road and she went past the turn, had to back up and get back on the skinny road.

We all sat patiently while she pulled up, backed up, pulled up some more, backed up, again...and finally got straightened out in the direction she was supposed to go!

I thought to myself....in a couple of weeks, she’ll have the route...AND the turning around...down pat.

We were always blessed with caring, sweet and complimentary drivers. I’m sure they put up with a lot and likely got minimal thanks, in return.

Thank you! I have four kids...if I didn’t have a sense of humor, I would be be a liberal.

We are getting ready to move in the next few weeks. The school district we will be in needs substitute teachers and aides badly. I am looking for a job, but if I can’t smack the kids without getting into trouble, then I am not sure it is for me. (Just kidding—I have taught kids in our religious education program at our parish for two years. I haven’t killed any—that they can prove anyway).

Screw it. Drop the kids off, period. As the video shows, the herd could use a little thinning.

About 2/3 of the kids in my younger children’s elementary school receive some sort of government assistance. That statistic hit home with me when I attended a PTO meeting where the giveaway of some high-ticket items like I-Pods, bikes, and such for the students was discussed. More than one teacher in attendance remarked that we would have to be careful or some of those items would be taken from the kids and sold by the parent(s) for drugs, smokes, alcohol.

Don’t get me started on the parents who wanted the PTO to do all sorts of fun things (for free) for the kids and their families but didn’t want to contribute either their time and/or material resources. They also wanted us to schedule our events around their lives (since we PTO officers obviously had no lives and could cater to their every whim).

I was in real estate. When the market bottomed out, I got out of it. I took the bud driving job because it was local. The school needed subs and asked if I was interested. I thought I’d give it a try. I had some strange and harsh experiences, but a lot of joy. Turns out I’m good at it. The school board eliminated my driver position for this year, so I’m just sub teaching, not doing both.

I encourage you to look into it. You’ll use your mom skills, for sure, but you’ll have a influence on r the kids you come in contact with. I pray and let God speak through me when I’m dealing with kids....and liberal teachers. There are a lot of Christians and closet conservatives in the public schools. They may not want God in the schools, but they can’t stop us from bringing him in with us.

Don’t you know - it’s a freeper tradition to take a position based on emotion, not on facts. So they’ll blame the driver who is following protocol put in place for the safety of the children. They would want the driver to open the door of the bus to a group of angry vulgarians.

I hope the woman sues the pants off every thug who assaulted her.

Nanny state FAIL. Tries to control everything (like making a bus driver responsible for pairing kids with parents????

I agree withch'ya. Parents should have turned over, broken the windows and set fire to the bus.

Rutland is peaceful farmland despite the yuppy invasion. The three murders in the past two years were from Holden and Worcester. Funny how the FBI stats don’t account for where the perps came from.
