Fairfax County seeks ways to address overcrowded housing issue

Fairfax County has struggled for years to find a way to address such overcrowding, with county inspectors repeatedly citing homes for having too many families living in them, and planners and lawmakers searching for ways to promote more modest, affordable housing in a community filled with spacious single-family homes and McMansions.

So far, it has been an uphill battle. The county Planning Commission is expected to recommend Wednesday that the Board of Supervisors stop considering a proposed amendment to zoning laws that would have fostered the creation of more studio apartments in Fairfax.

By allowing developers to build single-occupancy studios in various parts of the county, the “Residential Studio Unit” measure sought to address the influx of lower-income families to one of the country’s wealthiest suburbs while also creating more affordable housing for young professionals that Fairfax County is eager to attract.

During months of often contentious debate, the amendment faced fierce resistance from homeowner groups that said they were worried about increased density. Planners have concluded that no acceptable compromise could be found.

The county now will seek new ways to create housing for lower-income families and young professionals, said Sharon Bulova (D), chairwoman of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors and a proponent of the failed studio measure.

Funny. Never once do they mention about being overrun with illegal aliens living 50 to a house.

.....county inspectors repeatedly citing homes for having too many families living in them....

This is code for former middle class neighborhoods, like Herndon, being overrun with houses packed full of Hispanics.

only a matter of time before this effort is called racist.

Exactly. Federal & Fairfax County employees with their fat, 6-figure taxpayer provided salaries need many more illegals to serve their lattes, do their dry cleaning, give them manis/pedis, cut their grass, and clean their houses. With the out of control growth of both govts., the county has gone from red to blue and is why the Commonwealth is now purple, at best.

Actually, the problem of illegal alien dormitories got so bad here in Herndon, that the city council was forced to enforce their own zoning laws concerning the number of unrelated people in single family homes. Our neighborhood had several of those, and they’re all gone now. The illegals moved next door into Sterling, which is in a different county.

The DC area is overrun with illegals. On the Virginia side, especially in parts of Prince William County, there are large numbers of MS-13 and other Hispanic gang members. It is an interesting layout of the communities where the uber rich live in close in towns like Alexandria, Fairfax, etc., then there is a ring of lower priced communities filled with these kinds of people, then there is an outter ring of high priced, upper middle class.

Geeeez, Bulova (Dim) has been there forEVAh!
What do they expect when they make the county a “sanctuary county” with rampant voter fraud...and, apparently, tons of illegal “kids” have been dumped there too. The schools are over-run...
Can the rest of the state secede and make No VA part of So MD?
Pretty please?

I was just talking with some Prince William County PD officers. None of them live in the county and they said their biggest problem is Illegals and specifically MS-13.
