This isn’t a new change, the “kinder, gentler” basic training has been around for a while.
I’d love to see a comparison between this change in training recruits and the increase of soldiers with PTSD. I bet you’d find a strong correlation.

My son enlisted in the Navy in 2000. He had a great local recuriter that prepared him physically all summer, we had him watch all the war movies we could, with emphasis on movies about basic training.
His boot camp was in Michigan, he said every day his drill sergeant would curse their parents, how screwed up their parents were and what they had wrought in them and how so much time is spent undoing the damage their parents did, using lots of curse words. All the recruits thought is was funny and so do I.

Pissed off US (as opposed to volunteer RA) are fightin' MF's ... 'cause they REALLY want to go home.
'Cause they never wanted to leave in the first placer ... as opposed to a lot of us RA's that lied to our fathers and told them they (we) were joining because we wanted to ... not because we had a fight with dad last night.
I said it in another thread, and it means nothing to anyone else ... 'cause he's dead ....
