I was only able to get to “The most remarkable thing about the claims that Russia is officially supporting the rebels in Ukraine is how little evidence there is to back them up after five months of fighting. “

Then I stopped.

To not be aware of the tons of evidence to the contrary of your claim, you have to be either
a. Totally dishonest
or
b. Willfully blind.

Otherwise how do you explain multiple eyewitness reports and satellite images of russian military equipment entering Ukraine. Or 1000s of dead russian soldiers whose families get no explanation as to their death.

Bottom line - the piece is a huge pile of pro-Russian propaganda BS. Goebbels would be proud.

Funny how Putin first had to invent a crisis in Crimea and then in eastern Ukraine before he found it necessary to send in his goons and start killing.

The author of this article has created a post facto justification for Putin’s acts of mass murder in Ukraine. The worst of it is that he has a position teaching U.S. college students in neo-Soviet logic.

Right here on FR are plenty of people who are both a. and b., and will happily call you a banderist, Soros loving, Monstanto paid, Nazi loving sodomite troll if you say otherwise.

the overwhelming desire of the local population to secede from Ukraine

No need to read further when this lie is presented as fact. For example, in the rigged election 123% of eligible voters voted in Sevastopol.

The main problem Western Ukrainians face is if they insist on keeping the Donbass, they cannot become part of Europe.

A civilized divorce would be optimal for both sides. Russian speaking Ukrainians do not want to lose their historical and human ties to Russia.

Any attempt to deny this reality will fail. And Russia’s interests ultimately cannot be ignored.

Western Ukraine is part of Ukraine only since after WWII. That's the problem. You can not impose the will of minority to the majority and still have democracy. People who do not speak Ukrainian language are forced to use it.

IMHO, Western Ukraine taken from Poland should be returned to Poland and much of the trouble would be resolved. The rest of Ukraine (Orhodox Christians) would find a way to cooperate and arrange workable state.

Breaking up Ukraine along the lines of Czechoslovakia is the best solution.

The West can join the EU and NATO and the East can join Russia’s Customs Union, the CIS and the CTO.

Who is being hurt by a scenario? No one.

Apart from the fact that you’ve misidentified the minority, you have a point.

Thank you for the Russian (Putin) point of view

Bingo. Here's a map.

It's about the boundaries of Russian vs European Ukrainians.

Show us the evidence. Putin ain't playing ball. obama and people like obama want Putin gone, just like Ghadafi and Mubarek. Crimeans voted 90% to separate from Ukraine, Putin had nothing to do with it. I haven't seen the Russians make one offensive move. I've seen burned out Russian vehicles on our media if they were in Russian vehicles.
Our media doesn't tell us the truth about anything that might hurt obama, and you expect me to believe that Putin is the aggressor here.
If Putin wanted to take Ukraine he could do it ....tonight.

Solution: break up Russia into 179 different autonomous states for the 179 different people groups within Russia. Invasion and annexation may be necessary but Russians understand that well. ... and in further news we go to Голос кремля DTA (Voice of the Kremlin )

Crimeans voted 90% to separate from Ukraine

No one sane is believing that. This "referendum" was recognized only by 10 countries other than Russia in the UN - Armenia, Belarus, Bolivia, Cuba, North Korea, Nicaragua, Sudan, Syria, Venezuela, and Zimbabwe. No one else.
