Rapist Who Can't Bear Prison to Be Euthanized
Newser ^ | Sept 16, 2014 | Robb Quinn

Frank Van Den Bleeken, a Belgian man in prison for multiple rapes and a rape-murder, has decided he wants to die and authorities have decided they can grant that request. Van Den Bleeken, 50, has been in prison for nearly 30 years and has declined to seek parole because he believes his uncontrollable urges make him a danger to society, but he says he can no longer bear prison conditions and his own "unbearable psychic suffering," AFP reports. "I am a human being, and regardless of what I've done, I remain a human being," he told Belgian TV. "So, yes, give me euthanasia." Authorities determined Van Den Bleeken met the required conditions: He is conscious, capable, and has expressed a "voluntary, considered, and repeated" request to end his life.

I'm glad to see him go, but I do wonder...why wasn't castration an option for parole?

Sorry you deserve what you get. There are consequences for actions especially something as brutal as rape. It takes a real sicko to rape a woman. If I were the judge I’d put you in solitary confinement for the rest of your days.

Yeah, we don’t know what the options were that they had at sentencing other than prison. However, I have it on good information that castration or euthanasia will soon be an option for the NFL.

Better make sure he repents before God otherwise the eternal prison of hell will be even ‘slightly’ more unbearable.

That's fine as long as they don't do it on the field.

Pity, in a way. Knows himself, understands himself and accepts that he’s a risk and always will be a risk to others.

While we could debate the merits until the cows come home this is one time I’m going to call euthanasia a kindness.

I wonder how many children or little old ladies he killed and chopped up.

Maybe these kinds of criminals, once they DO confess, ought to be given the choice... “Execution” or life in prison.

I think that would be fair to all concerned.

The trouble with this slippery slope is that once we grant a government the liberty to ‘put down’ people for situations we agree with, there may come a time when they start putting down people for situations we don’t agree with, such as being a conservative..
The way to handle this is to let the guy rot in prison. His dejection will be a warning to those who get out to behave themselves.
I am all for capital punishment but if he were sentenced to life in prison, I think it would be a mistake to empower the government to offer him death as an option, not because he doesn’t deserve death, but because governments need to be limited.

Folks joke about it here, but they really have NO FREAKING IDEA how bad Hell really is.

I pray he repents and seeks Christ.

WAIT A MINUTE
Belgium, like most (all?) European countries has outlawed the Death Penalty because they claim it's "barbaric" (like those Neaderthal Americans).
But it's "enlightened" to grant them Euthanasia?

I know freepers are not sympathetic to this guy but this person was not sentenced to death and is going to be put to death any way. Just another ride down the slippery slope. Sometimes it sounds like the NAZI’s really did in Europe.

I the case of rapists, I am all for long imprisonment under horrible conditions. And then they can begin their sentences. Killing him because HE wants to die would go against that sentence.

Read the article. It wasn’t our system; it was Belgium. The death penalty is not legal in Belgium.
